single-slice pizza sales part of the crime problem in Adams Morgan (DC)
Councilman preps ban on 'Jumbo Slice' sales

WASHINGTON - Blaming single-slice pizza sales as part of the crime problem in Adams Morgan, a D.C. councilmember is proposing a ban of the popular late-night snack in Adams Morgan.

The crowded bar and nightclub scene on 18th street has had a recent spout of violence, including a shootout that killed a man, and injured two police officers.

D.C. Councilman Jim Graham (D-Ward 1), who represents the neighborhood, tells WJLA-TV that the 'Jumbo Slice" pizza joints that populate the strip are part of the problem.

A recent hidden camera investigation done by the television station showed a recent fight that started just outside of one of the businesses.

However, Graham's proposal does have many opponents, especially among the crowd of people who usually grab a slice after a night out.

2. Nothing better then a slice of pie after a night out
Perhaps one of the biggest things I miss from living in Jersey. I think there is only one place in the Columbus area (not counting the crap at malls, which does not qualify as pizza anyway) to go get just a slice.

3. It's probably all the anti-oxidants in the pizza sauce that drives them to crime.

4. Ban pizza-by-the-slice? How unAmerican is that?
The longer I live, the more laws are passed that just don't make sense.

7. Apparently Jim Graham is trying very hard to provide another slippery-slope argument to the NRA.

"So what will the liberals do after they ban your guns in a backwards and misguided attempt to end crime? Ban knives? Ban beer? Ban pizza? Don't laugh: DC Councilman Jim Graham (D), has declared that pizza joints need to be illegal--and proposed a bill to ban them--because criminals like to eat pizza. It isn't a joke. This is the type of backwards thinking that left-wing gun-grabbers demonstrate, and it's the type of backwards thinking we need your donation to defeat.

(P.S.: It's well known that criminals who prefer unarmed victims like to vote Democrat. Perhaps the councilman should consider just where his 'logic' leads!)"

8. If we outlaw slices of pizza
then only outlaws will have slices of pizza.

Interested to know if the councilman has a stake in other midnight-snack outlets.

31. Recall Dan White and twinkies and the result
No more Harvey Milk because Dan White is a murderer.

Diane Feinstein becomes mayor and then US Senator. She calls herself a D but barf. Her husband Richard Blum is a 9 figure no-bid contract Iraq war profiter.

White gets a slap on the wrist and suicides when released. He was insane and had an ignorant mind but was elected to city council in SF.

There are far too many batshit insane politicians to this day.

Pizza is an excuse and this situation is likely racist or at least cultural -- hey kids get off my lawn only ugly instead of locally absurb.

What would Telegraph Avenue be without single slice pizza? Now there is a good mixing of cultures.

Because if people can't get pizza, they'll just go home quietly and be good citizens.

Councilman Jim Graham deserves a medal or something!

19. You know, I've seen shit like this. In my town it was burrito places.
Everyone is cozy in the bar, drinking with their circle of friends, then 2 rolls around and everyone is put out on the street. The people mob the burrito places that are open until 4 and some drunk fuckers always have to get into some shit. This is made worse by the fact that while bars had bouncers to keep people in line, the burrito places just have a clerk and a few people working in the kitchen.

24. There aren't any Metro stations in Adams Morgan
However, you can get off in Dupont Circle and walk there

Also, Adams Morgan has the worse parking problem in the city

Perhaps, that's what's causing the violence?

The next Red Line station past Dupont is officially titled "Woodley Park-Adams Morgan-Zoo".

Of course, it is across the Duke Ellington Bridge from the Pizza Combat Zone itself. :-)

23. We have the same problem in my city...
... and it's not the single-slice pizza places that are to blame. Most of these places do 90% of their business in the evening, by selling pizza slices to the bar-crowd... who by some amazing coincidence are often drunk. The drunk people congregate outside the pizza places and cause problems (fights, etc). It was frustrating seeing the city try to go after the pizza places for the drunk problems... even more amazing when you consider the fact that none of the pizza places served any alcohol.

26. All jocularity aside, could Adams Morgan set up a Business Improvement District?
like, say, 34th St. in NYC has? It could assess local business owners and hire private security to patrol the neighborhood (the strip we're talking about here is only a few blocks long) more thoroughly than the DC police can.

32. Dirty Harry Pizza.
"I know what you're thinking. Did he eat six slices or only five? Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I've kind of lost track myself. But being that this is a triple cheese, quadruple meat, double anchovie pizza, the most powerful pizza in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk?"

When pizzas are outlawed, only outlaws will have pizzas.
