27. Damn. Apparently, I'm the only one who pictures
George Bush as one of Baum's flying monkeys. Sometimes, I'm the only one who gets me. That's okay. I'm used to it.

And thanks for the welcome :hi:

9. I've never seen The Wizard of Oz in colour
As a kid, every year I'd watch it on teevee with Danny Kaye telling everyone before the film about the black & white bits. For me, it was black & white in its entirely. By the time we went to a colour telly, I was no longer interested.

That is my shame.

36. "Wizard of Oz"
1939 was one of the greatest movie years, and there were many greats that year, but I love "The Wizard of Oz" the most. By the way, another fabulous, brilliant movie was King Vidor's 1928 silent masterpiece "The Crowd."

46. I knew '39 was a good year for films but didn't realize how
good till this thread.
Love so many of them, GWTW, Wizard of OZ, and Gunga Din as someone else mentioned are just a few; but I have to go with the Wizard from childhood memories. I still crack up when the Tin Man tells the Cowardly Lion, "I hope your tail holds out!", while the lion is worried about his courage.

52. Except for the vague notion that "Wizard of Oz" contains subtle rightist
propaganda, and of course, the explicitly political "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," I guess I'm just not seeing the political content of this thread.

And I also never understand the defensiveness of GDers whenever this sort of thing gets pointed out to them. Then again, I never really understand the kind of hysterical defensiveness of GDers in general, so that's really neither here nor there.

53. GWTW was a well made film but,
it's premise was that things were so much better when the south had slaves.
The title refers to that wonderful bygone time when life was so much better. Sure, unless you were black.
