Why is Dick Cheney letting his daughter fight this battle for him?

For the same reason he let me and tens of thousands like me fight his battle for him way back when. He's a coward.
It's easy to snarl, bluster, and mimic courage in front of a microphone after the fact. Shit, Ted Bundy was able to pretend empathy, and how did that work out for those who bought his act? Faking it is what sociopaths do, and Cheney is simply better at it than most.
Physical courage is an ephemeral thing, you either have it or you don't. I have seen some of the bravest men it has been my privilege to know clean the shit from their drawers after things settled down. But when the bullets were flying, they did their jobs.
What I find contemptible about Cheney is his attempt to reconfigure himaself. Hey, Dick, it was a lovely fucking war, but you had "other prioroties". That's fine, but for the love of God, please don't try to now portray yourself now as some manly colossus who, 40 years later, decided to stand astride the gate while turning back the marauding hordes. Your place today, as it was then, is inside the gates.
The only difference is that 40 years ago you were hiding behind other men. Now, you're hiding behind your own daughter.
