Mom Of Local Soldier Killed In Iraq Says War 'Senseless'
http://www.local10.com/news/11512497/detail.html

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. -- The mother of a soldier killed in Baghdad believes her son's death was senseless.

Sgt. Joe Polo, 24, of Opa-locka, Fla., died of wounds suffered March 29 when enemy forces using an improvised explosive device attacked his unit, according of officials at Fort Carson, Colo.

Jackie Guerra said she is opposed to the war but always supported Polo's sense of duty.

"He was a special person, a true American," said Guerra.

Polo grew up in Carol City and enlisted in the army when he was 17.

"He didn't have to die. This is senseless. He was just driving down the road and ran over a bomb. That's how he died," said Guerra.

1. Bravo, mother, Jackie Guerra, for speaking out. Thank you for your courage!
I'm very sorry for your loss of your young son.

2. It's hard to calculate which of the two of them made the bigger sacrifice.
God, this would wipe me out. I totally understand families who lose someone there and become war supporters. Psychologically you almost have to believe your child went over there for some good reason. For it all to be senseless and a waste... I don't think I could bare that.

What a stunningly brave woman. What a true gutsy hero. She shames our government with the truth.
