Specter Would Crush Sestak in Primary

A new Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group poll in Pennsylvania found Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) way ahead of Rep. Joe Sestak (D) in a possible Democratic primary match up, 56% to 16% with 16% undecided.

The poll was commissioned by the DSCC.

Meanwhile, an interesting article in the Allentown Morning Call notes that with the exception of his first two Senate votes after switching parties, Specter has "been about as automatic" a 60th vote as they come, "holding the party line on every measure but one that's come before the chamber. The sudden streak of loyalty comes after some Democrats balked at Specter's initial insistence on touting his maverick style and as a potential deep-pocketed challenger waits in the wings."

1. Pehaps, but Sestak is a better human being ... with time, I hope he wins the Senate.

2. No offense to Casey
They did the same thing with Casey versus Pennachio. It's all name recognition. If the party were to get behind Sestak, donors were to give him money, and he were able to get out there consistently over the next year you'd see those numbers change drasticly.

Instead people will turtle up, say POLL POLL POLL, put their money and support behind Specter, a guy they were looking forward to actively campaigning against a month ago, and get another non-liberal into a Senate seat in Pennsylvania.

It absolutely disgusts me that any Dem would support Specter in the primary.

3. I don't suppose the DSCC has a vested interest here?
On paper, the 76ers should have rolled over the Trail Blazers in the 1977 NBA championship final. Unfortunately, they played the games on a basketball court and not on paper, and Portland took the title that year. An early, early poll makes Sen. Grandstand look invincible. But I wonder what might happen in a real, live contested primary?
