Electric vehicle battery exchange station demonstrated.
EV's will be leaving California and national mileage standards in their way-less-toxic dust.

The curious and ironic thing is that the US taxpayer will probably be funding some of Israel's EV program - to stop funding terrorist supporters by not buying oil.

Oil inextricably linked to terrorism and corruption and planet cooking.

Better Place Unveils First Automated Battery Switch for Japan EV Study
Demos Charging Infrastructure for Fixed and Switchable Battery Electric Cars

Better Place today achieved a milestone in accelerating the mass-market adoption of electric vehicles by demonstrating the world’s first battery switch technology along with electric car charging spots. This simple range extension technology delivers a cleaner, more convenient experience for drivers. Better Place was the only foreign company invited by the Japanese Ministry of Environment to demonstrate its switch technology, which provides a viable solution to make electric vehicles a reality by offering drivers virtually unlimited range.

Better Place showcased its battery switch platform today using a modified NISSAN electric crossover SUV to demonstrate how to switch a depleted battery for a fully charged one. The company also demonstrated its commitment to open network standards by charging a fixed battery electric car, via one of four Better Place charge spots installed at the demonstration site. Recharging of the vehicle batteries is made possible by Sharp Corp. photovoltaic solar panels, creating a truly zero emission solution.

“Today marks a major milestone for the automotive industry as well as for Better Place,” said Shai Agassi, Founder and CEO, Better Place. “For nearly a century, the automotive industry has been inextricably tied to oil. Today, we’re demonstrating a new path forward where the future of transportation and energy is driven by our desire for a clean planet and a robust economic recovery fueled by investments in clean technology, and one in which the well-being of the automotive industry is intrinsically coupled with the well-being of the environment.”

1. Now if the US doesn't give "exclusive franchise" we might have something
Wouldn't it be great if battery stations could be found in the rest areas along the nation's major highways?

I ahte to sound like a whiny old fart, but I wonder just how fucked up the American version of this could be. We have already watched nearly every small business opportunity sucked up into a major corporation, often by an existing major corporation (thinking about video stores) and yes, that delivered lower prices. But I can't see why small businesses couldn't get a foot in on something like this, instead of simply handing it over to the gasoline retailers because they already have the locations. I can't imagine how there wouldn't be room for small businesses to take a corner of the parking lot at rest areas and charge up electrics.

2. I only one minor problem with an exchange system
Paying to use the service then getting stuck with a worn out battery pack.

Other than that, it is one way to get this country off the gas guzzling path.
