1. This is America, land of the free enterprise.
If you can't afford it, your as good as dead.

4. Too fucking bad
She died of compassionate conservatism. She should have taken care of her own medical expenses, lazy bitch. And to think, christians loved her before she was born. If she had only been brain dead and on life support "christians" would have rushed to her defense insisting she be kept "alive" because, as we all know they are pro-life. But cancer patients not being able to afford treatment, hey this is America; who cares.

I hope I don't have to use the sarcasm emoticon. But her case is exactly what conservatives want for America.

8. I agree
How dare she become ill when she couldn't afford it. That's the problem with Americans today, they think they can have it all and someone else will pay for it.

And the insured doctor who survived?

-snip-

Klaassen no longer sees patients but works part-time as medical director of an Oklahoma City group that recruits doctors to give free care to needy patients.

-snip-

I'm sure conservatives will agree, he's just making the problem worse.

5. I feel for her.

There really is no safety net anymore. I have rheumatoid arthritis in both hands and wrists, am in constant pain, and have joint damage and bone destruction in every single joint in both hands. Just typing this is horrible.

Yet I am on the verge of going to jail for non-payment of child support, and was told by the doctor that it would be a year before I can even apply for disability because with this particular disease SS requires that one be treated and have it fail before you can even apply without being refused offhand.

I am basically sitting here waiting to be hauled off for being sick and unable to afford the medications and treatments I need to arrest this disease. Hell I will probably end up dead myself since the lining of my lungs have been affected already. That is not confirmed, but I am in constant pain there as well.

I guess only the lazy get sick in America.

6. I have Been On Both Sides of Insured/Not Insured
and being insured is so much easier to deal with.

Seven years ago I was driven into bankruptcy
after a bicycle accident nearly took my legs off.
I got the surgery just because I looked and acted
like I could afford it.

Fast forward 7 years and now insured through work.

I was just diagnosed with bladder cancer Saturday
and will have it operated on tomorrow (bleeding too much to delay it).
My deductable for the entire year is $1,200. (already covered with medical savings account)
I even have a choice between 2 world class hospitals for the surgery.

It's a societal crime that this country can't cover everyone in a similar way.
We could afford it if we weren't busy spending it all on
corporate wars for resources.

7. Don't forget that many who think they are insured find out different
when they actually need the insurance. Their variety doesn't cover their disease or their deductible is so high that they put off needed tests until it is too late. I fall in the latter category. Living in this situation or without insurance is a form of terrorism performed by our "for the people" government.
Do you hear that, you ignorant republicans? you're commiting terrorism with your fucking health care policies.
Sorry. I needed to get that off my chest. All these half assed ideas that are anything less than single payer will continue to screw the porr and middle class.
