Just waiting for the next shoe to drop...
Edited on Sun May-17-09 09:52 PM by kentuck
Wondering if America is ready for the truth?

And what a terrible time to be broken the news. America's economy is treading water. We do not know if it is going to recover or not? Our 401K's have lost billions of dollars and we have our fingers crossed that it will not lose everything. We have no idea where the new jobs are going to come from? We know that we can never return to where we were.

This year, we have to borrow one dollar for every three that we spend and the experts tell us that we need to spend more than we have ever spent in our lives. Otherwise, our banking system may collapse and we will go into a depression worse than the 1930's. There are not a lot of bright spots on the horizon.

One thing that we did have with the last election was hope. We had plenty of hope with our new President. But now, some Americans are wondering if we are losing that?

We don't really want to hear the truth. That our leaders lied us into a war and tortured prisoners to try and get them to connect Saddam Hussein to AL Qaeda so they could continue to lie to us. That our leaders broke all our treaties and laws in the pursuit of their wars. That they now get the sheep in the media to tell everyone that a lady on the Intelligence Committee "lied" about not being told about the crimes that were committed. And that what she did was "despicable" and that she should resign her seat. And on and on...

I apologize if these few words brought you down. Reality bites sometimes.

2. I was at a large federal building on Friday

I go there on an annual basis for a couple of days and we set up an information booth in the cafeteria.

I had presumed that anything related to Federal Employees was going to be solid but the cafeteria owner told me he didn't think he was going to survive. Not only were the number of visitors down most of them just bought chips and a coke. While the federal employees income is still unaffected their spouses are having a hard time.

Half of the coke machines had no coke to dispense and I noticed that the vendors were only bringing in deliveries on a COD basis. If its hard for somebody who caters to federal employees its easy to see how other businesses are suffering.

We got the right guy in charge, calm and smart. I kind of chuckle about McCain suspending his campaign. Can you imagine if he had been elected? He would be panicked running from one fire to another. The whole country would be on sedatives!!

4. America has always been an imperfect Union
throughout its history.
The shoes were always up somebody's ass,
not so much "ready to drop".

Whether killing Native Americans,
enslaving, raping, and hanging Africans-Americans,
and later denying them the vote.
imprisoning Japanese and dropping the dropping Atom bomb,
corrupting Latin American leaders,
smearing Hispanics,
or bringing thousands of US soldiers back from Vietnam in coffins,
while mistreating those who managed to return

Allowing unequal and segregated education,
the incarceration of practically an entire generation of youth,
and enabling schools to crumble,
while humiliating the victims of such systematic and instutionalized practices,
meanwhile others profiting from the misery,

Robber Barons of old and new running the country,
Bailing out Savings & Loans,
and on and on and on.....

And yes, we tend to survive.....each and everytime.

So those of us living in reality for a long long time,
we know exactly what reality is,
and it has consistently bitten our asses off forever and a day!

So if there was anybody thinking that Barack Obama and Hope was gonna make it all the better
in one fell swoop,
and require him to do it per the specification of those who really want to believe,
that they have been assigned to give out the orders,

There is little to say, other than they are not living in reality, period.

As for where the Jobs are coming from?
It's clear to me.

will this be enough?
No one knows, including today's reality.

It would be an understatement that those who think that Barack Obama was bringing hope,
and then got derouted, deserve not only to be totally disappointed,
but in realistic terms, they should consider themselves as nothing short of stupid.
Barack Obama never claimed to be a Messiah....only folks on message boards did!

so yeah....
Miracle Whipped!

5. "We do not know if it is going to recover"
Kentuck, I'm not an economist but I can't bring myself to agree with that premise. What I do believe is that our economy will contract and then contract some more. People will be forced to say "no" to themselves and their families. They'll keep their cars for longer and no moving on up to the bigger house. Turn the thermostat down, put on a sweater and teach themselves to economize in many ways.

I know how Jimmy Carter's advice all those years ago helped me to follow the example of my parents who knew how to pinch the tears out of a Lincoln penny. That reality bites, too. Just a little bit softer than never recovering at all.

6. I think it's going to be worse than most people think, and I don't think most people
are preparing the way they should.

7. Get ready to downsize. The planet cannot sustain
a growth economy anymore.
