Two Political Films of Great Relevance: "W." and "MILK"
Edited on Sat May-16-09 07:11 PM by Mike 03
Granted, it took me forever to watch these two incredible films, but these are remarkable and timely works of art, right up there IMO with DePalma's "Redacted."

This is a vanity post in the sense that I'm just so proud of these filmmakers: the writers, the directors, the actors who dared to portray individuals like Bush, Harvey Milk, Dan White, and the brave producers and executive producers who dared to finance films that a huge percentage of the viewing audience would rebel against, reject or simply avoid--because the truth is sometimes painful.

These films continue on in the same vein as the equally bold "Syriana", and "Munich" and other brave films from farther back like "Network" and "All the President's Men."

The bottom line of this post is just to urge anyone who feels that films no longer are relevant to social consciousness to check out some of these movies, because they inspire my hope that great art still matters.

Thank you for reading my rant.

1. I haven't seen
"W", so I can't comment on it, but "Milk" was fantastic.

3. I am not any fan of GWB but isn't
W basically just Oliver Stone's interpretation of events and based on very little facts.

4. "W" was terrible
Oliver Stone's not so interesting interpretation of recent history made worse by wooden performances. Have yet to see MILK so I can't comment on that, but I wouldn't recommend anyone waste their time seeing "W".

5. "The Battle of Algiers" and "The Contender" are also great political films.
Check them out if you haven't.

Saw W in the theater when it first came out. It's a complete joke. It's just "poor little Georgie just wants to be loved." What a load of crap.

7. Oliver Stone missed it on "W". Very disappointing. Haven't seen "Milk" yet.
