Tortured Logic, Tortured Results
By William Loren Katz
May 14, 2009 - http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/051409c.html

Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, said, "the administration authorized harsh interrogation in April and May of 2002 -- well before the Justice Department had rendered any legal opinion -- its principal priority for intelligence was not aimed at pre-empting another terrorist attack on the U.S. but discovering a smoking gun linking Iraq and al-Qa'ida."

Journalist Paul Krugman said of the mounting evidence: "Let's say this slowly: the Bush administration wanted to use 9/11 as a pretext to invade Iraq, even though Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. So it tortured people to make them confess to the nonexistent link.

"There's a word for this: it's evil."

5. Maybe they just wanted to obscure who the real perpetrators are.
It is only an assumption that they tortured people into making false confessions in order to create a false link between Iraq and 9/11.

It is more likely that they did it in order to obscure the real truth behind 9/11.

They didn't have to torture anyone in order to justify the war. All they had to do was plant some WMD in Iraq after the invasion.
