White House announces names for US attorneys
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/05/15/white-house-announces-names-for-u-s-attorneys/

"President Obama today announced his intent to nominate Preet Bharara, Tristram Coffin, Jenny Durkan, Paul Fishman, John Paul Kacavas and Joyce Vance for U.S. Attorney."

Preet Bharara: Nominee for U.S. Attorney, Southern District of New York
Tristram Coffin: Nominee for U.S. Attorney, District of Vermont
Jenny Durkan: Nominee for U.S. Attorney, Western District of Washington
Paul Fishman: Nominee for U.S. Attorney, District of New Jersey
John Paul Kacavas: Nominee for U.S. Attorney, District of New Hampshire
Joyce Vance: Nominee for U.S. Attorney, Northern District of Alabama

Brief bios at above CNN link.

More on Jenny Durkan (I'm interested in all of these, but since I'm from Seattle, I'm very interested in Durkan):
http://www.seattlepi.com/local/6420ap_wa_us_attorney_seattle.html

Democratic Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell recommended Durkan for the position in February. In an interview early this year she said she believed in using the civil litigation powers of the U.S. attorney's office to improve environmental protection and corporate oversight.

From that article, she sounds pretty good.

Also, looked up the Alabama one because of interest in the Siegelman case, but it looks like that would need to to be the Alabama mid-district to replace Canary. Someone please correct me if I'm reading that wrong.

6. Thanks Solly
After looking further, it looks like the nomination of Joyce Vance will replace Alice Martin, who was one of the key people who persecuted Siegelman.

That's a good first step.

Hopefully, replacements for Leura Canary and Louis Franklin are next on deck.

2. Will Joyce Vance be Siegelman's savior
by dropping the case?

3. I am wondering that as well.
On a quick look, she's replacing Alice Martin in the Northern District of Alabama.

Both Alice Martin and Leura Canary (mid-district) were involved in this, so I'm unsure how this will affect his case.
It does seem a positive step forward, but I think it's very important that Canary also be replaced.

5. That is not all of the nominees - that is just a list of the
nominees he has decided on at this time for US Attorney.

There are empty posts waiting for nominees to be named and confirmed that do not appear on the list.

8. Thanks merh
I figured it was just the start and it looks to be a good one.

Hadn't even thought about empty posts - great point.

10. You are welcome. I am anxious about these appointments so I
am tickled to death to learn that they have begun.

FYI - There are 93 United States Attorneys stationed throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

11. I share those feelings
Something of interest from the article on Durkan:

"McKay, who quit the GOP this year, and his older brother Mike McKay, who served as a Republican U.S. attorney under the first President Bush, are among several former top federal prosecutors in Seattle who have signed a letter supporting her."

Nothing like genuine bipartisan support.

The first McKay cited in that sentence is John McKay, who was one of the prosecutors sacked by Bush in the DOJ political firings.
Don't think I saw before that he had quit the GOP. Hard for a person of integrity to stay in the GOP. Hope he and Durkan have a good, long chat.

I haven't seen much more on him than the short bio.

He does have an intriguing name.
