Frost warning for Hell
North Carolina just passed a smoking ban.

Starting next year you won't be able to smoke in any bars or restaurants.

Your thoughtful discourse on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

8. I'm pretty sure SC doesn't have high schools named after tobacco companies
This is RJ Reynolds High School:

(Google it if you think I'm kidding)

12. I believe you
It is pretty radical that they passed that. Wonder if there will be deaths due to restraint.

13. It will save lives
Far fewer drunks on the road since people will just stay home to drink and smoke

24. Reynolds family pretty much owned Winston-Salem.
There is your reason why there are Winston and Salem brands of ciagarettes.

Although they owned the tobacco business they threw their money around the community where appropriate.

3. I remember going into a restaurant in NC about 10 years ago and asking for a "non" table. I got the
single dirtiest look I have ever gotten from the hostess who explained to me, the Yankee, that there is no such thing as "non" in NC.

at least around here (Durham/Wake/Orange counties).

Where were you?

4. Welcome to the civilized world!
Even Bangkok, a city known for horrible pollution, has a smoking ban. Smoking bans are awesome for people who don't smoke... 80% of the population.

5. We've had the same "ban" for years.
Half the bars just ignore it...they're where the cops go to drink and smoke.

Honestly, if NC switched their cash crop from Tobacco to Marijuana, they'd be richer and happier.

11. Quit smoking. It's a nasty habit.
Also, quit cracking your knuckles, picking your teeth with matchbook covers, and kicking your feet up on coffee table when you watch the game. They stink. I look forward to the day when the state of North Carolina becomes so enlightened that they finally outlaw you putting your sweaty stinky feet up on the coffee tables of the Tarheel State. In case you haven't figured it out, "tarheel" is a nickname, not a point for bragging rights. Jesus, you're disgusting. Now, until that bright day dawns, I will only patronize North Carolinian restaurants that thoughtfully provide a separate dining area for non-knuckle cracking patrons.

You're comparing polluting somebody's air with foul smelling toxins that cause cancer to cracking knuckles

15. It's been happening in Kentucky too. Lexington was the first, and we are
at the heart of Burley country. The health department spurred our city into action. Either the city stepped in or the health department would have started closing businesses. A $500 dollar fine is a lot cheaper than having your business shut down until re-inspection.

22. wow, I remember on a business trip to NC like 10 years ago
I went to a restaurant and had to walk through all the smoke to get to the 4 non-smoking tables in the middle of the restaurant... which, weren't really all that smoke free due to the location.
