My Weird Medical Bill (Vinca's Mail Part Deux)

This is a nice story. A couple of weeks ago I had to have an x-ray of my hip. No insurance. I got the full tilt bill from the hospital, which I paid. Today, as is customary at this hospital, I got another bill for the procedure from the radiologist who read the x-ray. His office had called and asked about insurance a few days ago and I told them I had none and would be grateful for any break they could give me. Today I got the bill and when I opened it I nearly burst into tears. He only charged me $22.00. That's a small fraction of the normal fee. It's nice to know there are compassionate people in the world.

3. I've been uninsured since 1987

and doctors have been my best friends. Most of them have consistently under coded, chopped the bill in half, and still provided first rate care.

Doctors are not the problem in our health care mess. The are compensated well, but some of them are starting out a quarter of a million dollars in debt, too.
