Cheney shot a man, caused inaccurate reports to filed with police, avoided questioning, and ........
.... no one did a damned thing except to paint it over with whitewash.

Imagine if that were a man living in the inner city and being of some physically obvious ethnic background.

1. Also consumed alcohol prior to said shooting.
I always thought it was weird.... inexplicably weird.... how the media just looked the other way.

5. The watchdog media has more conservative masters now.
Could not focus glaring attention on excessive and criminal executive privileges now could they? Might rouse some rabble to get peculiar notions and perhaps do something about it. That would be change: progression.

2. If he were an inner-city man of some physically obvious ethnic background
He probably wouldn't be in a position to accept a huge deferred compensation package from Haliburton, either.

3. He is special.
I think that wealthy people have special privileges in the US justice system.

The average guy has a good chance at joining the above-the-law club by playing the lotto? Or how is this situation made acceptable?

4. Our justice system is political rather than fair.
This extends to the local level.

There should be personal sacrifice rather than personal benefit from public service; until this changes the we will be victims of special interests.

Oh yeah Cheney is sub-slime.

7. Had major holdings in a company that profited by the invasion of Iraq.
Told another politican to 'go fuck himself', has untold amounts of money in tax shelters, probably still runs the war in Iraq from his private bunker. He loved Nixon and Reagan so that tells you right away all he ever cared about is money.

10. On the floor of the Senate he told a Senator to go f*ck himself!
This is an addendum to the previous post. It wasn't just some citizen he insulted -- he shat upon one of the branches of government. It would be like calling the President -- whoever it is -- by his first name when you address him. The "West Wing" touched on this when President Bartlet hired Lily Tomlin's character as his secretary, even though she was up front about disagreeing with him politically, and told him that probably was reason enough not to employ her. "Even though you dislike my policies, you addressed me as 'Mr. President,' and that shows you have respect for the office."

Cheney's insult of a Senator, and where it occurred tells us a lot about Cheney's respect for America's institutions. You should be able to guess how he views the judicial branch -- "Go f*ck yourself."

8. He was probably questioned by federal agents
and he probably did not truthfully answer their questions.

The Bush DOJ just loved to charge folks with a violation of 18 USC sec 1001, just one of many of the charges Cheney should be facing.

13. I'm not sure that could be true.
The crime, if any, would have been local. They feds simply had no jurisdiction. They only had to hoodwink the local cops .... which they did quite well.

14. No, I believe the feds would have jurisdiction
and an interest - he was the vice-president. Secret Service are federal agents.

15. Honestly, I have no idea .....
Since he was the assaulter and not the assaultee, I wondered about SS. I see it different than you do, but it really is of little matter. It would, at best (worst?) be a joint matter, I should think.
