2. are you being sarcastic with your choices?
Washington and Maine, ok, but the other three? Yeeech.

My top five choices would be Vermont, Massachusetts, Maryland, Washington, Wisconsin. Lets add on the bottom five too, for perspective. For me they would be: Florida, Arizona, Utah, Oklahoma, and right at the bottom, Texas.

19. (I live in Oregon) 1. Calif. 2. Washington 3. Hawaii (Kauai) 4. Vermont 5. Mass. or Maryland
Impressions: I spent early childhood in Ohio (wouldn't want to live there, though). I grew up in California -- could go back. I used to live in Washington, DC -- great experience. I've spent lots of time and a summer in Colorado -- climate is too harsh for me. Spent a summer in Cambridge, Mass. -- Massachusetts is great. I love, love, love Kauai but don't know if I'd be cut out for year-round island living.

So, I guess, Hawaii, Maine, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina.

55. I would stay away from Iowa
At least in my experience. As a SD native and 10 year Wisconsin resident, I expected it to be a lot like home, but it is a very closed society. Everybody I met seemed to have spent their whole life there and they were shocked that I was so far away from home. I think my parents felt much the same way about South Dakota, but I did not notice it so much because I was practically born there. Bigger cities might be different too, but a comedienne in Des Moines joked about Iowans "If you did not make friends with them in the Junior high, then it's too late."

But that gets away from the positive thread.

37. Easy
1. Northern Virginia

I'm really talking the greater DC area here.

2. Maryland

Greater DC could possibly expand to places like Annapolis

3. New York

Mostly Manhattan really. Of course I'd have to be able to afford it.

4. Colorado

Probably only seriously consider Bolder, but I'm open to other places. It's gorgeous.

5. Pennsylvania

If I couldn't get one of the other 4, I might try Philly basically. I gotta say though Portland, Oregon comes to mind, if I could hack the weather.

but unless I won the lottery and could afford it or NYC, it wouldn't happen.

85. Boy, Colorado is doing better than I thought!
For me... hmmm. Hard to trim it down to just five, especially since I've only visited most places and only lived in two.

1) Colorado - the home turf where my family and still a lot of my friends are
2) Massachusetts - where I'm going to school now. It's very nice and I like it.
3) California - lots of my family live there and I've enjoyed my visits. I'd probably stay away from LA just due to traffic reasons, although I'll never climb aboard the "hate LA" bandwagon.
4) Maryland: I've been to DC several times and the areas in Maryland around DC seem very nice to me.
5) I'm out of ideas. I'd say Hawaii, which I love, but ultimately I fear I would feel too isolated out there.
