Question about low-energy light bulbs....
Over the weekend I bought some low-energy bulbs (the kind with the curly coil) and took them back because they turned my white room blue. Then I bought another brand with the same results.

Are there any on the market that have a warmer glow, something more like the old fashioned bulbs?

1. Yes there are....

I bought both kinds...I think the brand that has the warmer (yellow) incandescent lighting is Philips Soft White Plus. Bought them at Wal-Mart, but other stores carry Phillips, too. I really like these much better. They look like a regular bulb, too.

2. They make my guitars look as if they were made of Formica...
But they tell me, here, that there are different types of bulbs that do not make everything look ugly.

I have yet to encounter same.

3. 2,300K to 2,800K color temperature is what you need to look for
Incredibly white/blue is 4,500K so you need to go lower.

I have bulbs from Feit and Conserv-Energy which both cast a pleasant yellow light.

Not a fan of harsh/glaring light here, and I've been using CFLs for eight years now.

4. Thanks folks .... but ....
I just looked at the package on some I'm returning tomorrow. I can't see any numbers that look like they relate to the ones you listed (I don't even know what they mean).

I didn't know till just now that these bulbs I'm returning have mercury in them.
