If there's any way you and your family can make it to East Tennessee, I have an empty 2br/1ba mobile home right now. It needs a little work on the interior (replacing some paneling, which I already have), but is livable. I could set y'all up in it and give you a month or so of free rent in exchange for helping fix it up. It's out in the country, very quiet and very secluded. I don't know what kind of work you or your wife do, but there are some jobs that are available around here. Depending on your your job requirements, you may have to travel about 40 miles to Knoxville, but the cost of living around here is pretty inexpensive.

I only lived there 2 years but it actually only took a few days to fall in love with the beauty of Washington State.
MJ you would have a great adventure, as a family spending some time in this amazingly beautiful place.

A mere 2-4 hour drive takes you through the Cascades,, Mt Ranier, city lights & Puget Sound, Olympic Natl Forest, awsome scenery of Port Angeles & the Strait, the Hoh Rainforest, & out to the Ocean shore.

So pack up you crab-baskets and take lumberjack_jeff up on his offer.

Coming from a Northeastern State, you'd love this one, also.

It must have made some impression on me because even today I have a very clear memory of the beauty of that area. It was just a drive through. I stopped for photos and still have them in an album.
My drive across the country in 1978.

Maybe I need another cross country road trip. Revisit those places that left such an awesome impression.

Maybe I've been held up in North Texas too long.

to marianjack and family: don't log it out too fast. my son and i moved from CA to NC in 2007 with nothing but what we could stuff into and on top of a 1994 ford escort station wagon. i found a job within a month, we live next to a lake, and things are looking much brighter for the future here. i don't know where you live now, but i do know that compared to CA, NC is dirt cheap. i imagine the same is true for TN.
