Massachusetts will mark 5 years
of marriage equality on May 17, and our Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General helped to celebrate yesterday with the first couples to receive a marriage license under the new law.

And to think...we haven't been swallowed up into the belly of a whale as so many feared 5 years ago!

1. And yet the rapture
hasn't happened (damn-it, I really want to be rid of the fundies), we haven't been sucked into a vacuum of satanistic orgies and there are no, that I'm aware of, plans to allow the start of legalized bestiality.

Remember these are all things the religious assholes that ran this country for the last several years actually believed would occur if/when two people of the same sex were allowed to legally marry.

I don't even think there is much of an opposition to speak of anymore to gay marriage in MA is there? I remember the fundies stating that they would never give up and would keep their boots on the throats of the gay loving Legislature until a more godly body would be formed, verily. Some asshole actually said that, or something to that effect just about five years ago now.

2. Not a lot of opposition anymore, no...
except, of course, for people like my own illustrious and esteemed State Rep.(DINO)

After promising several of her gay supporters that she would see to it that gay marriage remained legal, she turned around and voted to put the question on the ballot a couple of years ago. They are POed BIG TIME!.

This after she argued during a debate with an opponent, who had been endorsed by MassEquality, that she "your sexual preference is your own business, but you are on the School Committee for cryn' out loud! What does it say to the children?....Honest...she actually said that!

3. Ho hum!
That's the best thing about it, really--ho, hum.

Some lives have been enriched, but the sky hasn't fallen. A few businesses made some extra money. A few wedding planners had a few extra paydays. Money was spent on wedding gifts that might not otherwise have been spent.

But the sky didn't fall. The fundies have gotta be pissed.

4. "The spirit of Massachusetts is the spirit of America..."
an old tourism jingle from the Bay State.

Let us hope that 5 years from now (maybe less? Please?), freedom will ring throughout the land.

This one just got personal: Someone I met at a conference last week expressed to me her desire to be married on Maui. Thing is, the current candidate would be ineligible, because she, too, is female, and many many years before Prop H8, the same unholy alliance of Big Religion got the trusting voters to amend our constitution to forbid this.

And then the next freaking day, I woke up to find that the bozos had failed to even pass civil unions. I damn near kicked over the newspaper rack! :grr: :banghead: :argh:
