GOP, RNC to rebrand Democrats as 'Socialists'
TAGS: Michael Steele, RNC, Democrats
By ROGER SIMON | 5/13/09 4:32 AM EDT

A member of the Republican National Committee told me Tuesday that when the RNC meets in an extraordinary special session next week, it will approve a resolution rebranding Democrats as the “Democrat Socialist Party.”

When I asked if such a resolution would force RNC Chairman Michael Steele to use that label when talking about Democrats in all his speeches and press releases, the RNC member replied: “Who cares?”

Which pretty much sums up the attitude some members of the RNC have toward their chairman these days.

Steele wrote a memo last month opposing the resolution. Steele said that while he believes Democrats “are indeed marching America toward European-style socialism,” he also said in a (rare) flash of insight that officially referring to them as the Democrat Socialist Party “will accomplish little than to give the media and our opponents the opportunity to mischaracterize Republicans.”

***

Exercising a rarely used party rule that allows any 16 RNC members from 16 different states to demand a special meeting, conservatives in the party forced Steele’s hand, and now the special meeting will be tacked onto the end of a previously scheduled meeting of state party chairmen that will convene next week at National Harbor outside Washington.

5. They don't have anything better to do with their time or money?
So, I suppose we are supposed to call a meeting and vote for the Repiglican Party of No?

I'm busy for the next week or so, but I could schedule something thereafter.

Sheesh!

Edited on Wed May-13-09 01:22 PM by LaPera
Republicans the party for the wealthy corporations of America...

Fuck the workers who pay the taxes...the corporations want the workers tax dollars to go to their corporations, NOT for health care for all and the workers rights to fair wages and a higher standard of living, Unions will and are fighting the corporations & republicans on these issues every day!

13. That's why I say we should call these regressives 'The Southern Party'.
They are a regional party now. The more we emphasize their diminishing demographic, the fewer voters will want to be members of their club (even in the South).

No disrespect to Southerners (I am one).

14. The word "socialist" has no emotional significance for most people under the age of 45.
"Red Menace" and "Cold War" are terms read about in history books. Russia isn't really a "Superpower" anymore. One can argue neither are we.

This isn't Reagan's America you're living in, Conservaturds. People aren't afraid of your boogeymen, buzzwords and anxiety closet spooks anymore.

The tea parties and the RNC really ARE the face of the Conservatives: tired, grizzled, racist old whackadoos whose opinions and ideas are from an era long gone that many, MANY people, progressive and moderate alike, are ashamed to recognize. Times have changed, and they simply refuse to.

29. They need to demonize the word "Socialism"....
This is pure NLP.. Neuro Linguistic Programming. I am not an expert on NLP by any means, but I am aware enough to know that it's a very sophisticated CIA-Type mind control tactic that they (media gate-keepers) have been using for years.

Just like the Republican Corporate Interests did with the word "Liberal". ( Rush Limbaugh harped on this for years) They were successful in dividing the American public and getting people to vote against their own best interests. Vote against anything "Liberal".

Now, with Democrats in the WH.. they have to roll out some new ammunition. Thus.. The key "trigger word" to be linked to health care, jobs, torture or the economy... will be "Socialism".

Anything the corporate interests and the media want to control to the benefit of the PTB (powers that be) will be linked to an accusation of "Socialism".

Just like white mice in a lab.. the American people will re-act accordingly.
