Yoko Ono Displays John Lennon's Bloodied Clothes
NEW YORK — A new John Lennon exhibit is particularly emotional for his widow, Yoko Ono. Besides Lennon's guitars, letters and other personal effects, it also includes a paper bag containing the bloody clothes from the night he was shot to death.

Ono received the items from the medical examiner in December 1980, when the former Beatle was gunned down in New York City at age 40.

"It was hard to include," Ono said. "And I thought it might be criticized as well."

But ultimately, Ono thought it was important to let people see the effects of gun violence.

1. Yoko
is a fascinating person. I've admired her, since she was publicly idenified with John in the 1960s. I'm still amazed that some people resent her; yesterday, a couple DJs on a Binghamton, NY radio station were attempting to make fun of her. I'm glad that she included those clothes.

15. people who resent yoko
show a lot more about themselves than they do about her when they talk.
she had a good many accomplishments before she met john, and since his passing. most people think all she did was "break up the beatles." a pity that she is so much in his shadow, still.

16. Right.
I'll admit to not knowing of her, before she was with John. But I know a bit about her now, and think she is wonderful. The fact that she makes some people uncomfortable is a good thing.

Sean and Yoko recently bought some Koi from the sister of a friend, for their place in Franklin, NY. And, as the very few people who read my recent "pond post" know, I like Koi.

18. sorry i missed that.
i like koi, too, but don't have a pond.

yoko was very important in the history of performance art. i didn't know about her back then, either. but she really helped invent that whole artform.

24. She was an important conceptual artist with Fluxus before John met her.
And her musical work was a continuation of that conceptual art work. She was highly influential on a generation of avant-garde and other (including women) musicians. (Just listen to the first B-52s album!) Anyone who mocks her without knowledge of her just says more about themselves than her (as the previous poster said), not that she is not open to knowledgable critcism.

17. I've always found it shameful how she was attacked by so many...
...and very hostile, petty, personal attacks, too.

K&R for them both

2. I wonder if
she would have included them if he had been stabbed to death. She wouldn't be able to make a political statement against guns so I doubt it.

4. If someone attacked Lennon with a knife, there's a greater chance he'd have fought back
and possibly lived.

14. Yes, but still
if Lennon had been properly armed, and had been shooting those he considered suspicious, maybe this wouldn't have happened. It was selfish of him not to take such a precaution, and this put innocent lives at risk. I blame Yoko. And John's mother.

23. OMG...
Do you KNOW how he was killed? Have you SEEN the security tape? There was no "face off" here. No twenty paces involved.

Why is it that so many still think that guns and knives are no different?

19. Or licked to death by kittens
However, the fact is that he was shot with a gun, and Yoko is showing the effects of gun violence. Pointing out that another method could have been used does not change that fact.

No other weapon (knives, kittens, etc.) is capable of delivering five hollow point bullets in under five seconds.

28. Chapman was on the sidewalk.
Lennon was 20 feet away inside the arch cover of the driveway.
The doorman was there with Lennon.
He was shot from that distance in the back.

A knife would not have been feasible under the circumstances.

He traveled to Atlanta where a friend gave him hollow point bullets.

Then returned to NYC.
