am thinking we are so fucked.
He lives in Ft. Myers, FL, we flew into Miami and out, renting a car to drive to Dad.
When we got home, we drove an hour to get there, with all the other traffic.
Is this even fixable? :-(

Edit to clarify: all the freakin' TRAFFIC, EVERYWHERE! How can that be combatted? I don't see it happening, ergo, we're doomed.
Or fucked...

for gas to get to $5.00+/gal. Should cut down on the traffic a lot.

As to global climate changes, 'fraid we are screwed. The powers-that-be are moving far too slowly (or not at all) to help make needed changes. Time to break out Jared Diamond's "Collapse" again.

ed to add:

You can come visit us, we are at 1335' elevation (currently). With a short drive (or horse ride) east, we should be able to enjoy a view of the new Great Inland Sea, formerly known as the Sacramento/San Joaquin Valley.

4. There are going to be some really bad times ahead, we can't stop that.
Even if the whole world did everything possible today, it will take 20, 30 years to stop the trend and more years to reverse it. The slowing of the of the ocean current may have already gone too far and if that is true the changes that it will cause are devastating and unstoppable.

Seems that oil addiction is just like a crank addiction, they're both self-correcting problems.

Very sad.

7. It is, we're trapped in a cycle we didn't create and can't stop.
Scientists were warning of climate change in the 70's and the people that listened were ridiculed and derided by the same people that are saying "the jury is still out", today.

Apparently, as a species, we are to dumb to live.
:kick:

8. I think it is fixable
Its simply a matter of will power. We certainly have the money and resources to invest in alternative energy, build mass transportation and conserve our resources. Unfortunately we have too many Americans electing politicians that care about issues of 20-100 years ago such as organized labor, civil rights, abortion... than care about issues of today and the future. We are wasting 100 Billion a year on a pointless war, image the future you could build with just a 100 billion dollars…
