1. Yeah, his "tut tut tutting" is silly
Imo, Wanda finally slapped Rush a good one for the many times he went after people personally.

32. What's wrong with fighting fire with fire?
I <3 heart Keith but he is wrong. Limpballs calls Obama a traitor all the time. He actually incites violence, Wanda just called him on his shit. I think that if more of us talked like her more often the right wouldn't be so shocked when someone actually calls them out.

OK. Kidney failure? Not funny. Oxycontin? Funny. Not because 9/11 is funny, but because Oxycontin is funny.

5. The only thing wrong with the kidney failure was writing.
If she'd said it as, "He wants this country to fail? How 'bout I want his kidneys to fail?.....Too much?"

That would have worked and the link would have been obvious.

I love Wanda Sykes and one blown line is not going to change that.

Ever see the "detachable vagina" riff?

14. That's an interesting observation.
Yeah, I think stated that way, it might have been more 'acceptable'.

I respect the hell out of comedians, even the ones I can't stand like that git 'er done guy or Adam Corrolla. It takes serious guts to go out there and just lay it out.

As for Wanda, her style is not what I normally go for in comedy, the over the top shock value stuff, but she does it so well. I watch her delivery, and you can tell she's worked hard to get the pacing and wording and the gestures and the tone of voice down. Even when she's talking about the most lurid stuff, I'm at least impressed, even if I cringe like I swallowed a lemon. She's probably bombed a thousand times to get that good.

Comedy isn't a roadmap, it's walking a tightrope, and you just never know what's going to happen.

18. I agree
There was a bit of awkwardness that I didn't expect from her. I wouldn't be surprised if it was written close to what you did and she flubbed it. Wouldn't be the first time Wanda blew a line. But she's a trooper and carries on.

24. Perfect.........
Your re-wording would have been perfect, yes. She made it personal, but took all of us with her the way she did it; your edit makes it a duel between Wanda and Rush - far more acceptable.

That said, I was so scared for her, but Wanda did us all - and herself - proud. She went out there and stayed out there.

No one will ever match Stephen Colbert's tour de force, but times have changed. Thank god. Or whomever.

One thing we can say about Wanda - she's no Rich Little .....................

12. She was very funny but she crossed the line.
For another audience, Rush/911/kidney jokes would be appropriate. But in this formum, it was a bad choice. That's this woman's opinion anyway.

29. I thought it was very funny.
I felt a "ohhh... dammnnnn...." kind of sense of lines being crossed, but then I remembered it was Rush... and I don't think Rush really has any benefit of doubt as far as lines of propriety... he's burned those limits with his own "schtick"... and in that second of weighing it... as my internal scales tipped toward "ahh, fuck Rush"... well I started laughing doubly so...
But then, I have a very dark sense of humor... I can even appreciate kidney failure jokes... Of course, I'm able to appreciate getting down and as dirty as the other side... if you prefer not to sink to the level of the Rush's of the world in your humor... then maybe you're a better person than me. As a bad person though... I liked Wanda's joke just fine...

19. What I haven't seen commented on...
is that Sykes looked over at Obama, and, apparently receiving a disapproving look, made a "come here" gesture and said "Come on... too much?"

The RW spin is that Obana was in stitches.

I haven't seen footage of Obana's response, but the RW reporting doesn't seem to comport with Sykes' reaction to his response. That includes you KO (much as I love you.)

20. The fact that what Wanda Sykes did or didn't say
is a big deal says something about this country. For God's sake, she's a comedian and comedians insult people and are edgy. That's life.

Maybe the press could discuss something really important.

I love Keith, but sometimes he has a big stick up his ass when someone else is in the limelight. He never seems to want to give Stewart or Colbert kudos when they pull off one of these smackdowns either. I think he is a principled and decent guy, but he does come off as somewhat personally vain at times.

I bet most people under 40 don't care a bit and most cool people over 40 either. Decorum? Please....
We are a nation currently having a debate over the legality/humaneness of torture (and mostly these same idiots in the media are controlling the conversation on that too with their inane nonsense) and yet we are supposed to get shocked and clutch our pearls over the fact that a comedian does a rather edgy bit? The hypocrisy is amazing.

Jon Stewart got it right "Is waterboarding offensive?"

25. Two reasons for that:
1. Stewart and Colbert are the competition in smart, funny commentary - not smart to plug them.

2. Stewart and Colbert have slammed both Olbermann and MSNBC for their seeming to be the liberal answer to Faux.

27. As much as I love Keith
I think he was a little oversensitive about Wanda's jokes. I'm guessing his own personal experiences and memories regarding 9/11 might have had something to do with it, or else maybe he's just not as nasty as I am.

Still, his line-by-line debunking of Bill O'Reilly's B.S. about WWII was classic. The Wanda Sykes thing will soon be forgotten, but Keith's Billo-bashing is the gift that keeps on giving. :)

I remember KO doing commentary on local radio in L.A. in the 90's, getting all het up about Clinton/Lewinsky. I wrote to the station (KFWB) to complain about the asshole and his holier than thou crap. I've admired much that he's done since, but he's by no means a guiding star in my universe.
