Passport to go to Canada
Do American citizens need a passport to go to Canada? What if all they want to do is to go to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls?

2. Last I heard, you did to fly but I don't know about driving or walking at NF but...
The view of NF is A LOT better from the Canadian than the American side. If you're making the trip you definitely should do whatever you need to in order to see it from the Canadian side.

4. No you do not need a Passport.. Just proof of citizenship and picture ID...
Edited on Sun May-10-09 12:17 PM by LakeSamish706
Just as long as you are not flying in... Otherwise you will be required to have a Passport.

Required Documents

When entering Canada from the United States, U.S. citizens must show either a U.S. passport or other proof of U.S. citizenship - such as an original or certified birth certificate together with photo identification. U.S. citizens entering Canada from a third country must have a valid passport. A visa is not required for U.S. citizens for a stay up to 180 days.

New Passport Requirement

Travelers to and from Canada will be required to have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports.

23. New rules go into effect in June. WA state residents have
another option. Instead of a passport they can get an enhanced drivers license from the Department of Licensing. The cost and wait time are substantially less. Several other border states have new enhanced driver license options, too.

8. Its getting back that is the problem, not entry
But you can get cheap passport-like docs from the post office now for $40 bucks. I forgot what they are called.

11. Some States have enhanced driver's licenses that
are chipped with passport information and act as a passport for land travel between Canada, USA and Mexico.
There is also a passport card and of course a full passport.
