DijonGate Begins!
Ohmygawd! I was right. When I saw that video of President Obama and VP Biden ordering burgers, and Obama said he wanted Dijon, I predicted this would happen. Does this make me psychic, or has Republican silliness and absurdity become that easy to predict?

WASHINGTON - The United States is in the midst of a devastating recession, mired in two overseas wars and grappling with a swine flu outbreak, but conservative critics are assailing President Barack Obama on another pressing issue: his choice of burger topping.

Dijongate is in full force, with Fox News and a conservative blogger leading the charge against the president for his choice of the apparently un-American mustard atop his cheeseburger during a recent impromptu lunch stop with Vice-President Joe Biden.

3. It's true though. Yellow mustard is the only correct mustard on burgers.
Just as Dijon is the only correct mustard on croquettes.

9. A few years ago, there was this commercial with some Joe-the-Plumber guy selling
some product (I forget which one now) with his aw-shucks any-guyness. His gentle delivery was meant to mask the fact that he was a thundering Neanderthal. He named a list of traditional guy things, and breezily insisted that there was only one proper color for mustard: "Bright yellow".

I wanted to punch his hail-fellow-aw-shucks face in...

Try putting goat cheese on your burger some time and you will understand there are some instances that scream for good Dijon.

the more people who have quaffed their Kool Aid will go, "Hey, I prefer that dijon and will start to think twice about what the Republican squawkers are criticizing.

8. The party of no has now become The Mustard Party
Let's see, where did the head clowns meet last week? At a pizza place. American? Italian? You decide. -- http://www.frenchs.com/product_hstry.php

By the by, French's mustard is not an American company, hasn't been for years and years. And dijon mustard may or may not be made in Dijon, as the name is not protected -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mustard_(condiment)

Do they have any idea how stupid they appear. So they'll put Freedom mustard on their hamburgers and have ketchup - whoops, not of American origin - on their Freedom fries.

Pathetic.

18. Now, now, let's be fair when it comes to the Ketchup...
"So they'll put Freedom mustard on their hamburgers and have ketchup - whoops, not of American origin - on their Freedom fries."

If you recall, when Kerry ran, the Republicans created "W" Ketchup so that no self-respecting GOP would have to buy Heinz. So I presume they use no mustard at all and put W Ketchup on the Freedom Fries :eyes:

12. After 8 long years of being led around
by a stream of blast faxes and talking points, the wingnut punditocracy has taken the bull by the horns and is plainly focusing on the most important political development in recent times without the help of KKKarl's faxes and the RNC's talking points. Bravo for these fearless journos who have thrown caution to the wind to put their very journalistic integrity on the line to expose this mustard flap. Clearly the fate of the western world is at "steak" here.

20. Obama did ask first for "spicy" mustard, and only went for dijon...
...when they didn't seem to have any. I think he wanted spicy deli mustard. Does that count as American? It's getting so darn hard to know which foods and condiments are patriotic enough to eat.

Spicy brown mustard is one of the items
Gulden makes and they're an American company.

Personally, I love the stuff!

They get even further into the wilderness, and have only their own obstinance to blame for it.

If it weren't so laughable, it just might be tragic.

25. Solidarity burger! Yes! I like that idea! Okay everyone....
We need to all have ourselves a burgers with dijon mustard. I know, I know this is no light or easy thing I'm asking you to do. But the President told us that change was going to require sacrifice and selflessness. Be brave. Be strong. Get yourself to your favorite burger place and no matter what else you usually put on those burgers, make sure you ask for and dramatically add a dollop of dijon before consuming it.

We must support of the President's controversial condiment decision. It's for the good of the country. :patriot:

33. Devil Bush's Evil Dijon Eggs!
Found this! Maybe we should send it to Fox News:

President and Laura Bush's Deviled Eggs Recipe
12 large eggs, boiled hard and peeled
1 Tbsp (plus) soft butter
1 Tbsp (plus) mayonnaise
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp Yucatan Sunshine Habanero sauce
Salt to taste
Cut eggs in half and set aside. Put egg yolks in food processor and add all ingredients. Process for 20 seconds or until mixture has blended. Check for taste and increase mustard, salt or Habanero sauce if desired. Place mixture in piping bag with star tip and pipe into egg halves. Sprinkle with paprika and chopped parsley. Chill for about an hour before serving.

Or maybe Dijon is only anti-American if used on burgers?
