Psycho Alan Keyes gets his wish: arrested at Notre Dame.
Alan Keyes among 21 arrested at Notre Dame

May 8, 2009 1:29 PM | No Comments

Former Illinois U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes and 20 other protesters were arrested this morning when they refused to leave the Notre Dame campus during a protest of President Obama's upcoming commencement address there, a university spokesman said.

Keyes and the others were arrested on trespassing charges when they refused to leave campus, the spokesman said.

Keyes was among a group of 26 protesters, some of them pushing baby carriages with dolls covered in fake blood, who entered the campus and were greeted by Notre Dame police, said university spokesman Dennis Brown.

The protesters had "publicized their intentions in advance," and were handed notices advising them that university policy bans protests unless they are organized by student groups and approved in advance, Brown said.

2. A disgusting abuse of free speech
Isn't there a free speech zone that these people can be shoved into, far away from the rest of us, so we don't have to see them?

7. I don't think you understand how free speech works
Isn't Notre Dame a private university? If so, they get to make the rules about who can and can't come on their campus and what they can do when they're on campus.

16. And the property owners permitted it
If they don't, people can leave on their own or in a police car. That's just how it works, and it doesn't conflict with freedom of speech at all.

18. Interesting - I find that allegation on various right wing blogs
But not one newspaper article that connects ACORN with those protests. And those protests were held on public property - streets and sidewalks - not on private property.

ACORN did have protests against predatory lenders such as Wells Fargo back in 2003 & 2004. Maybe somebody should have listened to them back then.

12. It's a private college, so it's private property and ALL students who go to ND have 1st ammendment
rights on campus as the article points out.

Keyes and his ilk were trespassing. Those arrested were not students.

Can I come to your house and wheel a baby carriage back and forth on your lawn shouting things? No. Because it's PRIVATE property.

17. One of the only folks I've seen Obama slap around in words too
Described him as the ideal political opponent and said that all he had to do during the campaign was keep his mouth shut and work on his victory speech.

21. I heard he had to wave his dick at a cop to get arrested.
Otherwise it would have been, "Who the fuck are you? Now get lost."
