I, for one, would like to thank George Bush!
Why? Well if it weren't for the outstanding job of the Bush administration I would probably have never taken any interest in politics at all. I admit that prior to W's reign of terror I did not care about politics, and had not exercised my right to vote. I know shame on me. I ignorantly assumed Gore was as good as in there, and did not bother to vote. I have been kicking myself in the arse every since(even though his election was stolen!). I had always been under the assumption that it didn't really matter much about what I wanted, and that I likely wouldn't make a difference. Boy was I wrong.

After four horrible years of seeing how the politicians were indeed affecting my family's lifestyle I went to bat for Kerry, and finally got fired up about doing my part to get myself and others to the polls and electing people who have my best interest at heart. I took the loss a lot more personal than I thought I would. So this time around I did all the personal campaigning I could for the Obama/Biden ticket. I found out that a lot (actually most)of my friends had never voted and proceeded to work them over about all the reasons they needed to, and how important this election was to them personally. I couldn't believe it but every one of them went out and voted.

I don't take credit for the inspiration though, I concede that Bush was all the reason they needed to do something. So thank you George for making myself and my friends so fed up that we actually did something about it. I came to DU to further my education on politics, and look forward to many inspiring conversations with you all. I may not be well versed, but I am working on it.

3. Welcome Aboard Your Honor
I give my thanks to limbaugh. I was rather apolitical in the late 80's and early 90's. I'd listen to him on the ride home and it didn't take long for me to really, really detest all things relative to "conservative" values.

5. Inspiration does tend to come in some odd places.
I was pretty much apolitical until Iran-Contra, and that pissed me off so bad that I started getting involved (and changed parties).

I'm *STILL* mad about that shit.

6. Thanks
Yeah it was extremely satisfying when Obama crushed McSame. I am hooked now! As for Rush, well if we are going to water-board someone, then I vote he goes first. Even though we could never get any useful information out of him, it would be fun to watch.

7. Now thats funny
We could waterboard limbaugh but what would be the point? There is nothing of value in his head (or heart.) The same applies to any cowards who make a living on right wing hate radio.

9. Yeah
I pick up stations in South Mississippi and South Louisiana. We are presented with right wing hate radio and right wing hate radio light.

12. Surely
you have a couple of stations dedicated 24/7 to NASCAR in North Carolina.

New Orleans has rush radio and another station which swears its not right wing but spends 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon advocating the gop talking points and giving 90% of its guest time to good patriotic conservative congressmen. I guess the "light" part comes from the fact that they concentrate on local issues. Thank God for Classic Rock, the Oldies Station and NPR. Hey Terry Gross comes on at three. Have a great weekend Mr Mayor.

16. Well as much as I
would love to blame the government for my own obesity, I suppose I will take some personal responsibility, otherwise I would be no better than a republican LOL. But I do blame the media! How am I supposed to control myself when they bombard me with all those delicious ads :)

17. Thanks to George Bush....
Edited on Fri May-08-09 03:39 PM by AnneD
I go to church and pray more than I ever did.....

1) I prayed he never died in office and Cheney took over.

2) I prayed he didn't fuck up too badly that it couldn't be repaired.

3) I prayed that the Dems took over (I am still waiting for that one :sarcasm: )

I have a better spiritual life thanks to Bush and he was right...He was a uniter not a divider. This country has never been uniter more than it was to get rid of that man.
