The new GOP leadership will be on the Sunday shows this week:

ABC's This Week: John McCain

Fox News Sunday: Newt Gingrich

Face the Nation: Dick Cheney

Tell me again why we should worry about the GOP in '10 or '12?

I think we Democrats should roll out McGovern, Carter, and Mondale to be the Democratic voices on those shows. Always good to hear from the current leaders of the parties.

2. Not *THIS* dead

There hasn't been a party that looked THIS dead since the Bull Moose party after the 1912 election.

9. I guess I need to be reminded which election Bush "won." I do recall
the two that were stolen, but won? Sorry, I just can't recall that one.

6. dems beat Bush on Social Security right off the bat
dems began an ascent after 2004, GOP started going down after losing in 2008.

8. Why worry? Because no matter how bad the Republicans look...
...right now, if the economy is still bad, and especially if it gets much worse, or if a big Democratic scandal occurs (real, manufactured, or partly real and then blown way out of reasonable proportion), or a major terrorist attack takes place (never mind the irrationality of running back to the Republicans for supposed protection, or how an attack contradictorily strengthened Bush), then the American public is stupid enough to vote the bastards right back into power again.

Unlike many other Democrats, I DO NOT look forward to Obama running against someone like Palin. That might seem like an easy win, and it probably would be, but one should never forget how unpredictable elections can be. I'd rather face a tougher fight against someone who wouldn't be such a nightmarish disaster if things go wrong and Obama somehow loses.
