Truly, they ARE IN FACT IDIOTS. You don't chose what color your eyes are, which gender you are, what color your hair is, the color of your skin, or your sexual preference. They just are. As such, people should not be treated differently because of those things.

You do, however, choose to be a hateful, bigoted, judgmental asshole. You do choose to be identified with religious groups that condone hate and violence. You make a choice about those things, so if anyone is going to be treated differently, it should be these people because they CHOSE to be this way.

Coming from a man who says he's a Christian, he certainly doesn't have Christian attitudes. What happened to do unto others? What happened to the challenge to throw the first stone? Would Jesus endorse these statements?
