Help me out
Why did Freddie Mercury shoot a bear then tell his mother about it?

1. Maybe he believes in justice and society
I think Queen has some good points, but they got sidelined by a few traps according to there songs.

The song you speak about, and one that is sad, and not relevant other then to understand the context of your question is Bohemian Rhapsody
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irp8CNj9qBI

(Not my view)
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality
Open your eyes, Look up to the skies and see,
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy,
Because I'm easy come, easy go, Little high, little low,
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me
Mama I just killed a man,
Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun,
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh, Didn't mean to make you cry,
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time
Goodbye, ev'rybody, I've got to go,
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooh, I don't want to die,
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all
I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright'ning me
(Galileo) Galileo (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo figaro
Magnifico I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let me go) Will not let you go
(Let me go) Will not let you go (Let me go) Ah
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Oh mama mia, mama mia) Mama mia, let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me
So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here
Nothing really matters, Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters,
Nothing really matters to me
Any way the wind blows

A few possibilities

Knowing he does not have to live with secrecy, and accepts any consequence of his action by being honest.

A plea for help

He may be trapped in fear, or not feeling loved in that song.

But more likely he is a bit trapped in nothing matters.

or trapped in trying to get out, a logical progression from 'nothing matters doctrine'

(explained: people need a purpose, if they have no purpose they just exist and don't live. That purpose does not need to be huge, or even socially relevant, it just has to be some reason to do anything. Most people find it in love of friends and family, or achieving goals that are challenges. Not for the reward, but for the purpose during the challenge, the path.

Here's the rub, if a false doctrine can get a person to believe in 'Truman Show' doctrine, or 'Show' doctrine, or even to a lesser extent 'Fate' doctrine, then nothing matters. And once nothing matters, nothing you do has any effect, so by not being able to effect anything. You lose any concept of purpose.

This leads to second stage of 'nothing matters' the very common doctrine, of 'must get out' Quite simply energy gets changed from doing something, to getting out of not being able to do anything. But the only reason a person can not do something is they accept 'nothing matters'. So the way out, is to reestablish purpose, by discarding 'show' 'trumen show' or 'fate' doctrine that lead to 'must get out' doctrine. It is only the thought that nothing matters, that requires the getting out he sung of.)

Queen has many many songs about doctrines I discard, but it is interesting to see how many others have seen those doctrines, although it would be nice if they added the solutions to overcoming them with their personal explanations of how they got out, if they did.

4. that's
what the lyrics sounded like and over the years I envisioned Freddy Mercury out in the wild bear hunting. I may have some deep-seeded mental thing going on. :)

5. michael, have you ever seen those little books by gavin edwards
with the misheard song lyrics? they are really funny

they are:
deck the halls with buddy holly (and other misheard christmas lyrics)
'scuse me while i kiss this guy (and other misheard lyrics)
he's got the whole world in his pants (and more misheard lyrics)
when a man loves a walnut (and even more misheard lyrics)

i'm not sure if they are out of print or not, but i highly recommend them--i remember laughing my ass off at numerous examples and cartoons in these books. even now they still make me smile and chuckle.
