"We are disappointed at the lack of emphasis on prayer at the National Day of Prayer," James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, told reporters at the Cannon House Office Building after a three-hour prayer observance... During the most recent Bush administration, Mr. Dobson and his wife, Shirley, who chairs the National Day of Prayer task force, had front-row seats during early morning White House National Day of Prayer services in the East Room. There was no such formal ceremony this year... "I do regret his lack of emphasis on the foundation of prayer on which this country is based," Mr. Dobson said...said Rep. J. Randy Forbes, Virginia Republican. "The first one was whether or not we ever were a Judeo-Christian nation, and the second one is if we were, when is that moment in time he can point to that we ceased to be so."
"Prayer is something that the president does everyday," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday, noting that Obama will sign a proclamation to recognize the day, as many administrations in the past have done. "I think the president understands, in his own life and in his family's life, the role that prayer plays."
Man if only there was some book based on this Judeo-Christian thing that we could consult about such things. Should we as Americans put on a big National Day of Prayer extravaganza, or should we quietly ask people to pray in some sort of private ceremony. Take it away Matthew;
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:5-15 Hypocrite oh snap that Matthew likes to fling the mud. I'd hate to be that old Dobson 3 hrs sitting around to get on TV guy right about now. I heard the Matthew guy was pretty tight with Jesus. The Bible apparently not pro giant showy nation day of prayer 3 hr made TV extravaganza. Apparently it had no problem with Obama going into his office room, close the door and signing to a document asking you for prayer. I can’t believe it. Sigh.
