from Iraq now."
It's through his Green Mountain PAC. No, it's nothing to do with the US
Attorneys or Gonzo, it's regarding the war and the recent Senate and House legislation. Here's the letter: (pleaase read the third paragraph down)
Dear President Bush:
The House and Senate have now both approved war spending bills that set timetables for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.
I urge you to withdraw your veto threat and sign this legislation, promptly. The time has come to acknowledge that your policy has failed and that a new direction is needed.
This war was not about September 11th. It was not about al Qaeda. It was not about making our nation safer. Instead, the damage this war has done to our national security, our national interests and our international standing has been incalculable. The injustices perpetrated at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo have tarnished our national reputation and leadership, and the way that Iraq has become a rallying cry for religious extremists has made our country and the American people less safe. I believe historians and future generations will look back on this war as among the most reckless, costly mistakes made by any President in our history.
The legislation passed by Congress starts the long overdue process of withdrawing our troops from Iraq and restoring our nation's standing in the world. I urge you to sign it.
Here's Leahy's comments about it:
Tell President Bush: Begin The Withdrawal From Iraq
Recently, the Senate passed legislation that would at long last begin the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq. Combined with the version passed by the House, it puts the Congress squarely on record opposing this war -- which now has run for more than four years -- and requiring that it be brought to a close.
Not surprisingly, President Bush has said that he will veto the Iraq withdrawal bill if it reaches his desk. Email President Bush today. Tell him that it is time to begin the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, and that he should sign this long-overdue legislation.
Even if you hate this legislation, this is a strong message to send to the WH.
