Maine Gov signed Marriage Equality Bill !!!
Welcome to the new world!

Governor signs gay marriage bill
By BDN Staff

AUGUSTA, Maine - Gov. John Baldacci on Wednesday signed a gay marriage bill passed just hours before by the Maine Legislature.

Baldacci made his announcement within an hour of the Maine Senate giving its final approval to LD 1020. The Senate voted 21-13 in favor of the measure after a short debate.

The House of Representatives gave its approval on a 89-57 vote Tuesday.

The proposal would make Maine the fifth state to allow gay marriage.

Four states now allow same-sex marriages. Connecticut, Massachusetts and Iowa have been ordered by the courts to do so, and Connecticut later enacted a law codifying the court ruling. Vermont in April passed a gay marriage law over the governor's objection.

not too sure though. they should just go for the whole thing.

and nevada too! i read somewhere that they banned it here though. too bad, it would definitely help the wedding industry.

8. Don't count on NM any time soon
Right wing nuts here are still screeching about ending the death penalty last month, not that this state ever used it much at all.

Those poor tender little things can take only so many shocks at once.

My guess is that it'll be another two years before the issue is even mentioned here.

12. I'm in NH and just got a robocall urging me to call the governor
and tell him to preserve the "sanctity of marriage" or some such nonsense. Fortunately, the tide is turning and it's unlikely to be stopped.

13. WOW!
I'm extremely happy that a number of states are voting in favor of civil rights this quickly! To be honest, I was expecting this to be a slower drip.

:woohoo:
