Corporations thrive using the divide and rule doctrine...
Edited on Wed May-06-09 10:13 AM by TheCoxwain
'Divide and Rule' was a devastatingly effective doctrine used by the British imperialists in their conquests of colonies in Asia and Africa, where they would favor one ethnic group over the other that would cause the population to fight among itself rather than the British. They succeeded by confusing their victims as to who their enemy was.

In the present times - corporations use the same tactic against countries in their quest for world domination. When President Obama stated his intention to close tax loop holes - they start whining that US will become uncompetitive against other countries. If that 'country' decided to raise taxes of its for funding social services - then it is presented with either the same argument or perhaps worse ( threats to leave shore to another tax haven)

Corporations have succeeded by pitting people of one country against another -- we have all have to become 'competitive' against other country OR ELSE ..........

Imagine a world where people call the bluff of these mega-corporations and restore the balance of power. For this to become a reality - there needs to be a cross border movement where people act in sync.

End of fantasy.

1. A psychological civil war started by the GOP.
Along with the military/industrial complex.

While they emptied the US treasury into their pockets.

2. You must add that the gov't has been doing this same thing
For the past 100 years when it comes to race relations here...

Divide and conquer...and the political system we have is exactly the same...

Dems vs. Rebups...

We've been divided not only by Corporations and their "spin" machines, i.e. the MSM..but by the very political system we now have...

3. Funny that the government has to use the same divide and rule tactic when it comes to corporations
Government has power because it is a monopoly. However, there are a few hundred of them around the globe. The big corporations are increasingly multi-national. It's not difficult to see how, on a global scale, corporations have the upper hand.

A few hundred regional governments acting in their own interests. Basically governments around the world are privatizing the profits, and socializing the costs, because there are more than one.

4. So true...
...and we need to figure out how to create a worldwide populist alliance.

Fortunately, the internet gives us the tools we need to do just that. Although how to make it happen is a more difficult question -- as always, the technical questions are easier than the social and political questions. How to make people see where their true interests lie, and how to unite seemingly disparate groups who are divided precisely because of the divide and conquer strategies employed by Big Business and governments as well -- the global ruling elites.

Funny how the powerful ruling elites have convinced the middle classes around the world that "populist" is a dirty word -- implying the unruly mob and a threat to "order" -- as though the "order" we have now is a good one.

In the meantime, the unruly mob of wealthy elites have run us all into the ground, ignoring issues like global warming and mass starvation while promoting exploitation, over consumption and never ending war.

We need to figure out how to fight it, how to harness the vast power that truly belongs to us.
