1. first call: A very strong voice for single payer
bingaman acknowledges that the support on the part of the public is there, but the votes aren't there in congress.

2. It's frustrating the folks in DC - House, Senate, WH are not as progressive as the people want to be
right now.

First time that's happened in my lifetime.

4. The Problem Is Widespread...
Over the past decade, the baby boomers are starting to age. Either they have experienced health problems or have cared for a parent who has. We've seen healthcare costs go up while our incomes and standard of living have gone down. Many sacraficed for years...not having full coverage or any insurance at all, but no longer can take the chances. The issue affects almost everyone...and if not on a personal level, then on a professional one.

No...the folks inside the beltway still don't get it. They don't have to sit in crowded ERs to get care...they don't shrug off aches and pains cause they fear the bill that may come back from any treatment. The insurance and big pharma lobbies have built long, deep roots. It's going to take more pressure from the grassroots for them to get the message.

3. He's taken a turn to the left
starting in 2006. I do hope it was due in part to some of my phone calls and letters but I can't maintain that conceit for long.

He's still moderate, but at least he's a whisker to the left of most of the Wall Street Democrats.
