My initial "take away thought" is that by supporting local agriculture and local artisans we keep that capability alive and keep that vital local option available to us. It's all about developing a local network of goods and services that can become more or less independent and self reliant... Or at least that is what I have gleaned so far.

I'm finding it a fascinating read! Would love to chat with others who are interested in transition culture.

1. I am interested...
...my studies have led me to understand that most of our problems today stem from loss of community... I have just glanced at the website and want to read more. Less dependency on large corporations and more on each other in smaller communities is not only healthier for the economy, but also for the earth, the environment and all of us individually. Thanks for the link and would love to discuss more once I read more.

2. You may want to read Darkness and Scattered Light by...
William Irwin Thompson. I think it was out in the 70's. It basically is about moving back to a village economy and creating a self sufficiency for that community.
Good book.
