"I don't want government in my business"
Said a former co-worker who wanted to get together and after we have updated each other on what we have been doing and dishing former co-workers.

Sure, I replied. You don't want government in your business until you want it.

How so? He asked.

When you happen to lose your job, or your health insurance, or your business, or your savings because you overloaded them with Enron shares... all of a sudden when you have no place to turn, you will be glad that the government is there to help.

He heard that. But then we talked about the economy and the housing market and then... it is all the Democrats fault. How so? I tried to keep my temper down. The Republicans controlled Congress for 12 years, Bush was in the White House for 8 years, they were against regulations. Greenspan promoted the creative mortgages.

Oh, but in 2006 the Democrats won, and Barney Frank said how he did not see any problems with Fanny Mae. And Dodd.

So the Republicans controlled everything and the Democrats took over the House in 2006 and you blame them? And we went back and forth. And the next day I got an email from him with many links that I did not even bother to read or to click. Well, one of them blame Greenspan which is what I said in the first time.

I think that I will send him this one

Which I posted

At least, he says that he is independent, that both parties are the same, spending money..

1. I want government big enough to bust big corporations in the mouth when they get out of hand
..but I also want government that allows good corporate citizens to prosper wildly.

2. Please ask him who he's getting his talking points from.
OK, his opinions. That's a serious request. Who is feeding his brain?

3. It's not "spending" that's the problem-- it's what you spend money on.
If you turn government into a system for siphoning money out of the populace and handing it to a few uber wealthy families, that is a problem. If you spend on the middle class, you're boosting the economy-- not draining it.

6. Yes, this was my reply, too
Sure, you don't want government in your business except in the most private lives: a woman's body, what happens between two consenting adults and prayers in school.

"I don't have kids" he mumbled.
