When I think of the naked hippies having fun and frolicing in various archive footage of the 1960s, that sort of transcendence of orthodoxy, or, the earnest seeking of that sense of unity, is aeons apart from the sexually mass marketed young woman of today in her Hooters shirt, and Sex in The City sensibility. It seems some have been hoodwinked into believing that playing the role of cosmetic eye candy is somehow akin to a new, radical, feminist independence. May be for some, I suppose.

Wildly apropos, however, that this ideal would peak during the equally bass-akward, Orwellian Bush/Cheney admin's reign of terror. An era of unreality masquerading as reality.

...it's important to keep in mind that the further the society is removed from that ideal (not suggesting the 60s movements were all pure/noble, but in retrospect, much more so than some other subsequent youth-culture movements/trends) the easier it is to remove the substance and direct the focus toward the superficial - however, that doesn't mean that the people who gravitate to various ideals once represented within the CC movements only do so, or necessarily want it to be that cosmetically focused.

So, while there's always gonna be the posers and trend followers, there are also always gonna be those who, despite the trappings being grounded in commodity, know better, and seek it out in all sorts of varied ways.
