LBJ knew how to "sway" dissenting Dems..
Just sayin.

"You want that fucking power plant in your state? Then support my bill"

I wonder what projects Sen Evan Bayh wants for his state of Indiana.

1. LBJ was pretty ruthless when it came to that sort of thing.
We could learn a lot from him, I think.

2. He was the Master of the Senate. He knew how to count.
He was also a master of working the rules to suit his agenda.

5. Right on. But we also must remember..
LBJ signed some of America's most progressive legislation in such a short amount of time.

Master of the Senate he was. That carried over into his presidency.

Peace

12. We must also remember that
he got 36,000 Americans killed and another 200,000 wounded in a needless war based on lies, in Vietnam.

3. He sure did- but Reid is more like Mr. Rogers
with the Senate his "neighborhood."

4. Damn straight. We absolutely must get rid of Reid!
Any news on potential primary challengers in Nevada?

6. Yeah, wasn't Rahm supposed to be Obama's LBJ?
Wonder what happened with that...

8. I thought LBJ said "Get 'em by their balls and their hearts and minds will follow"...
I still have my Little Red Book of the Sayings of Chairman LBJ ("Don't spit in the soup. We all got to eat.") He was a colorful character, and his epitaph should read, "He got the job done."

I'm sure LBJ would have managed to horsetrade for something with Senator Bayh. I hope we've got an equivalent horsetrader today.

9. I think LBJ used material from Hoover's private files to perfect his persuasive techniques.
Obama won the hearts and minds of a majority of the voters -- and I think that's the most persuasive weapon in his arsenal, and the best one.

11. It's called negotiation. If you run for the Senate, you should know
how to do it and have the courage to do it. Harry Reid gives away too much without getting anything in return. He is a dud as a majority leader of the Senate. He does a horrible job.

13. LBJ is one of my 50/50 people.
Half of what he did was great: voting rights, The Great Society, etc.
Half of what he did was horrible: The Vietnam War

However, he was always a master politician. Reid is pathetic. Johnson would pick him up by his ears. I can't even imagine what he would do to an Eric Cantor.
