What an insulting, insulated prick. Most of poor areas I've seen (and lived in) were full of English speakers. Men like Newt are helping to create more such ghettos.

16. Good grief. I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it

One of the rarest creatures in the world is an immigrant to the US who doesn't want to learn English, especially a Mexican immigrant. I entertain with magic and balloon twisting as a side business, and because I speak Spanish, I'm pretty popular with the Latino community, which includes recent immigrants, probably both legal and illegal. The parents always have some level of English proficiency, although we may end up giving each other info in Spanish, but they're constantly improving - they have to. Ninety-nine percent of the kids of these parents speak really good English (as well as Spanish). The few who don't are either recent immigrants themselves or too young to be in school where they're going to be exposed to English a lot. You do away with bilingual education, you do away with an important part of the process of helping immigrants learn to speak English. The only immigrants I run into who aren't actively trying to learn English would be the grandparents in the family, but they're not out trying to get jobs, etc.

My ancestors probably didn't speak English when they immigrated here (heritage is Polish/German), and they probably took the crappy jobs that current citizens probably didn't want to do because they came here to make a better life for their children, not for them. They learned what English they could, and their children learned more, hopefully got better jobs, and the process repeated itself.

The only problem people like Newt have with these immigrants is the amount of melanin in their skin. They're too brown.
