Thank Dr. Governor Howard Dean for taking up the universal health care banner. Go to www.Standwithdrdean.com and sign the petition. He brought us a Democratic Majority in the House, Senate and the White House... stand up, sign up and watch Dr. Dean bring us all access to health care.

1. Dr. Dean has been the Forgotten Man. I don't know why. He has been excellent.
He has been such a wonderful force for all of us, and I say that as someone who was never a supporter of his presidential candidacy. But he's a great guy, great Democrat, and yet is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Democratic Party.

Not right.

12. I think Richard Gephardt is the forgotten man. Sadly, the base of the party forgets
the way he fought for it for so long. He was the only candidate in the 04 campaign who had a truly universal health care plan. And in 94 the health care debate culminated in the Mitchel plan in the Senate and the Gephardt plan in the House. I thought the Gephardt plan had the best ideas of all the ones that were debated that year.

2. Mike - Is he supporting Single-Payer?
Everything else is tinkering around the edges. And whatever we get this time we'll have for awhile, so I'm all aboard the "Single-Payer or bust" movement.

5. he's supporting a public option and that is the best way to get
to single payer. there is absolutely no way that we're going directly to single payer.

I'm with Ed - people everywhere are screaming for Single-Payer while the industry and politicians claim it can't be done now. Why not? http://www.pnhp.org/news/2009/april/the_public_option_co.php

PNHP - Single-Payer Or Bust!
http://www.pnhp.org/

I would support the public option if not for one thing. Whatever we get this time we'll have for a long time. They will "wash their hands" of health care. "We've done that! Check!" I'm afraid there wouldn't be any "getting there" with a public option. Also, public option could prove to be disastrous with private market marketing tricks and thereby "prove" to some that Single-Payer would be even worse. I really think the private, medicine-for-profit system is vulnerable NOW - maybe for the first, and maybe the last, time.

6. Here's the short petition
Give America a choice. We support healthcare reform that allows individual Americans to choose either a universally available public healthcare option like Medicare or for-profit private insurance. A public option is the only way to guarantee healthcare for all Americans and its inclusion is non- negotiable.

Any legislation without the choice of a public option is only insurance reform and not the healthcare reform America needs.

7. dr. dean is to modern democrats what thomas paine was to our "founding fathers"
dr dean is and thomas paine was the voice of the "common" man. they say what people want to hear and they are useful to get folk to support the cause but their messages are a threat to the ruling elites.
the media made dean look the fool to nullify him as a candidate. americans swallowed it hook line and sinker.
we need many more like dr dean but sadly even those who should support him believe him to be dangerous.

13. Sell the Public Option or sell Single Payer?
Edited on Tue May-05-09 12:08 AM by PHIMG
Single Payer - you are covered, for everything, automatically from cradle to grave with zero out of pocket expenses.

Public Option - may or may not be able to pick a publicly run plan (of some sort) that may or may not cover you even as well as Medicare, and you definitely will have out of pocket expenses.

Which do you think is easier to sell to the American public?

The only healthcare reform worth passing is the one that has inspired a huge grassroots movement and that is Single Payer.

When the people lead, the politicians will follow and the health insurance companies will be nationalized as penalty for their many crimes and as to remedy their wastefulness and inefficiency.

Centrist democrats are trying to have thier cake and eat it to. They want to "get healthcare done" but not piss of thier paymasters.

This public option is a joke, crafted to fool gullible progressives into support a bill that on balance will be horrible for American healthcare but amazing for the private insurers bottom line.

Single Payer or Bust.
