Funny comment at bankruptcy court today -
As I have discussed here previously I had to resort to filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I had my meeting of the creditors today (mine and 97 other cases)and was told to be there at 9:00 am. I did not have my turn until after 11:00 am so I got to hear just about every case in the room.

The meeting of the creditors is fairly simple since most creditors do not bother showing up. The bankruptcy court administrator swears you in and you then have to state your name and address and confirm you are filing bankruptcy and that you do not want to add or change anything on the schedules that you filed. The trustee then asks if any creditors want to ask questions (out of the 97 cases there were only 2 creditors and they were private citizens - not companies). The administrator can also ask questions if there is anything they would like clarification about and she did question several of the people.

The main question the administrator asked is what brought on the hardship that led to the bankruptcy filing. Most of the answers were "job loss", "medical bills", "divorce" but one young man plainly answered "BUSH". The administrator asked for him to elaborate and he went on to explain that he built houses for a living and the economy had really hit him hard. His answer did cause a few giggles and smiles throughout the room. I loved it! It made my horrible morning so much better.

I am so glad that is over - I wasn't asked a single question. My turn took all of 30 seconds. I sat in a hot, overcrowded room for over two hours so I could stand in front of the trustee for 30 seconds. I guess that is part of my punishment for having to file bankruptcy.
