Franken: "Why Am I Grumpy? Oh, I Know Why"
By Eric Kleefeld - May 4, 2009, 12:04PM

Al Franken did an interview with the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, where he discussed the very unconventional transition process that he's gone through without being an official Senator-elect.

His recently-hired staffers, a state director and a chief of staff, are actually working for free, because Franken has no office budget. When Franken has travelled to Washington, he's either paid out of his own pocket or from the campaign's legal fund -- which itself has been the focus of a lot of fundraising activity. And he really does wish he could be involved in the important decisions being made in Washington.

Franken had a funny take on it, saying it was odd but not the worst personal crisis that can happen. "And every once in a while I'll find myself, I'll get grumpy," he said. "And I'll go, why am I grumpy? Oh, I know why -- waiting for five and a half months to see what happens! (laughing) That's why."

3. Have you been following
WineRev's postings on the recount over at Kos? Very witty, insightful and informative. He's developed quite a legal following, and the comments have been as interesting as his diaries. He's done about 140 of them, so far. They are addictive. They've become part of my daily routine.

4. I hope the Senate Chamber is PACKED with Dems to applaud when
Sen Al Franken is seated. I would love to see the Repubs faces when they are forced
to face him.

5. When he finally gets seated....
I hope he unleashes a vengeance against the Republicans and makes them regret ever crossing him.

at the Repubs. I hope they're humiliated. I hope he comes up with a one-liner that will be played, replayed, and played again on the 24/7 news for a long damn time.

8. And I hope
that the Senate leaders decide to make his seniority and his pension benefits, as well as his pay, start from the day he should have been seated.

10. The faces I want to see: Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Bachmann!
Oh how sweet it will be! The wait will be worth it, and the Repubs can't (credibly) come back and say that the process was foiled.

Then Franken will turn out to be one hell of a senator, will make the people of Minnesota (those that aren't batshit crazy) proud, and will be re-elected again and again and again.

7. Al is holding up well in spite of this most frustrating situation.
I still can barely wrap my brain around a Senator Franken after watching him on SNL so many years ago! Turns out he is good enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it people like him!

:bounce:

12. It's a good thing Al's good enough and smart enough. Doggonit, people like him!
Which is, after all, why he won.

The Republican Party is beyond shame at this point.

14. Yeah, I'd be grumpy too if I were Al
And we have six more weeks of this shit left at least (figuring they will take their sweetass time handing down the ruling even though the actual hearing is on Monday June 1st). By that time it will be more then seven month after the election and more then five full months into the term of the new Congress.

15. He should be elected Senate Majority Leader when he's seated as a reward for his patience.
He'd certainly be better than the fraud in there now.
