I heard him say this. As far as I know it's completely false and was addressed almost from the moment Specter switched.

My understanding is that Leahy has seniority over Specter and this post is not in question.

Am I wrong? Does Gregory know something I don't? If he is as wrong and mis-informed as I think he is, what the F!@# is he doing hosting MTP?!!

And I don't think Specter denied it.

5. Assuming there was a promise, I would guess Bush Co. prosecutions.inquiries were on the table.
Something Leahy wanted, could not get going in the Comm. when Specter was chair during Repub. reign.

4. Leahy has seniority, - if he gives up chairmanship to Specter,
then we'll know for sure there was some back-room wheeling and dealing to get Obama's judicial picks out of committee and approved. As long as Specter follows through, I can tolerate him for a while. If he doesn't follow through, I'll join in donating to a primary challenger.

6. Senate Seniority and Committee Membership links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senate_seniority#Current_seniority_list (recently changed to reflect Specter's switch)

http://judiciary.senate.gov/about/members.cfm

Hatch and Grassley are more senior senators than Specter, but maybe he had more seniority on the committee or they head other major committees (as when Biden was more senior than Leahy but Biden switched to chairing Foreign Relations).

Guess he's 2nd-most-senior Dem now, but I can't see Leahy giving up Judiciary at all.
