Rilly?

These things need to be said, ya got yer Olberman and yer Maddow and the issues are actually being addressed openly...

So why do we gotta put up with the pretense that we still need a bubba instead of a calm, lucid voice to tell it!!??!!

1. Perhaps because not all of us are as leftish as you? There are many

facets to the Democratic party. Ed speaks to a lot of us who are a bit more moderate than Keith, and certainly Rachel. Adding yet another "liberal" would be as redundant as Fox News. There's room for more views than just the far left in the party.

Yeah but he's a bonehead
I'm not talking about "views" but delivery.

I can listen -- or used to-- to Ed but his Good Ole Boy schtick is tiresome.

Hartmann and Moyers are professional journalists sans bonehead, macho pretensions.

Anyone gotta prollem with that?

5. Thom Hartmann is much overrated as far as I'm concerned. He's
smart, but I got tired of hearing how Europe is so much better than the US. As for Moyers, I usually prefer his guests to him. I guess it's a matter of taste, and I agree that Big Eddie can sometimes go overboard with this schtick, and he sometimes frustrates me with his lack of knowledge on certain topics, but he reaches people who would never listen to Keith or Rachel.

On the brighter side, Randi will be back on the air on May 11th, and I couldn't be more ecstatic.

9. I have a problem with that...I like Thom, but he's often a great substitute for Ambien
...just saying.

I don't think it's schtick. He likes hunting and fishing. He's a working class guy from Fargo. The party has all kinds of people.

10. I appreciate "the party has all kinds of people" but it is FER SURE a schtick and it's tiresome
Edited on Sun May-03-09 01:37 AM by omega minimo
as in too much energy to be worth listening to anymore.

as in wanting to look at the Durbin link in the video forum and not being able to stomach Ed's schtick at all.

Good thing there's so many bubbas waiting to be "converted" and MSNBC don't care what *I* think.

:hi:

11. At least there's a choice among left of center voices now
I'd love to see Stephanie Miller get a show, but I think Rachel kind of beat her to the punch.

I've listened to Randi for years in Florida before AAR...I like her and her content, but she can get grating to listen to after a while.

You say it's Fer Sure a schtick, but I've listened to Ed's local show in Fargo "News & Notes" , which really is local and doesn't get into National politics. He sounds like basically the same guy to me on both shows.

I agree with the other poster -- Moyers is really perfectly suited for PBS. Maybe an outlet like "Democracy Now", but not MSNBC.

13. It may be schtick to you but I enjoy it.
I never miss Ed's new show and I'm glad to see him on other MSNBC shows offering commentary. I like Mudcat, too.

I never miss Moyers either but I don't think everyone should adopt his manner.

14. Bonehead, yea, in a way but he appeals
to many Dems, also somewhat boneheaded in their own way but they love the "good ole boy" delivery. No prollems here, just that I know many "good ole boy" type men and women who watch him religiously. We need all the Dems we can get, even the boneheads.

2. MSNBC is shooting for a liberal progressive "Bubba" instead of an intelectual
and when you think about it, it's a good move.

We really need to get the bubbas onboard with what we plan for the country. Instead of letting the Glenn Beck militias scoop them all up.

Hartmann and Moyers are just preaching to our choir.

Sure they'd be better entertainment for our types, but if the bubbas come over to watch Ed maybe they'll stick around for Keith and Rachael and learn something.

Get it?

4. So it's a cynical marketing ploy to suck up to boneheads and infer machismo is a given -- got it.

so people who don't wanna listen to the dumbfuck style (probably just as patronizing-sounding to rural folk as to "the choir") are an expendable audience.

That's not a very savvy cynical marketing ploy

...I can't see "Selling the War" running on MSNBC, especially since they were part of the problem on display.

24. Thank you!
I can't stand the man.

I also have a friend in Fargo that claims ole Eddie is a wife beater. His first wife is the victim.

I have no use for any man who has this kind of history.

15. Ed has a certain style of his own but it's not anti-intellectual , Maddow and Olbermann are
different also.

Ed was the only one who seemed to really get what Biden was actually saying in that interview with that idiot Lauer. the rest of the media claimed Biden said something he didn't actually say .

18. I Prefer Moyers On PBS
Many times I've stayed at hotels where there wasn't MSNBC, but I could get the local PBS channel. I've been watching Moyers for decades and his charm is the independence he has from both ratings and the corporate money games that he'd have to deal with at an NBC. IRC, that was a big reason he parted company with CBS.

:hi:

26. And then, it all followed him to PBS! When was it -- when Poppy
was infesting the White House? That must have been a blow for him. But, he's found a way to fund his own show and is shed of those miserable bastards now for the most part.

Moyers is a gift. He's the kind of host that elicits attention and interest even when his topic isn't something you think you're interested in. That's a rare quality.
