U.S. looking to keep Gitmo tribunals

WASHINGTON, May 2 (UPI) -- The White House is reviving a modified version of former U.S. President George Bush's military tribunals for terror detainees, administration sources say.

The moves, which will almost certainly draw protests from human rights advocates who supported President Barack Obama because of his promises to abolish the tribunals, are being made necessary by major obstacles to trying some terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in U.S. federal courts, unnamed sources told Saturday's New York Times.

Administration officials are concerned that judges will make it all but impossible to try detainees who were subjected to harsh interrogation techniques that many call torture, or to use hearsay evidence gathered against them by spy agencies, the newspaper said.

1. Honestly, I am not surprised, but it is a disappointing stance.

4. Human Rights, like trials for the torturers, are off the table.
But, the apologists will tell you there is a secret plan in the works.

5. Over 400 views and hardly any replies...
Just like the other couple of threads I've seen dared to be mentioned on this subject. Go ahead, fool yourselves with arguments using 'may' and 'might' or that the sources aren't good enough......or better yet, ignore it and maybe it will go away......

Absolutely disgusting that it's even considered.......and even more disgusting that no one wants to say one thing against it.

Just checking in...

I thought this change in President Obama's position is crazy...

On one hand he claims to be "for the rule of law", campaigns on it, gets elected then does the old "flip-flop"...

And no one noticed...

It is shameful...

If this is "the change we can believe in"...then he's got some explaining to do...

My only possible defense of this change is that evidence they have...that can't be revealed...due to "national security"...has to be overwhelming...and maybe these final "detainees" are truly dangerous...

That's the only defense I will offer...and it's full of holes to even post it...but I guess I have to...

But if he makes exceptions to his own beliefs and the foundation of our own "rule of law"...then maybe he didn't actually hold those beliefs...but said he did....???

And if he didn't tell us the truth on this...what's next...
