From the front Business page of the NY Times. Circuit City outsources it's own workers and the Media yawns.

1. And American citizens just stand around with their hands in their pockets
while massive corporations treat the American middle class like disposable wipes. They want the middle class to buy their junk but they don't want to pay them what they are worth. Corporations want to use the vast American middle class market, wipe their a** on us, sell us cheap crap, and then throw us away when it comes to paying us for our work. We are the disposable American middle class.

2. This is why unions had seniority rules!
Young folks, males especially, hated those rules. They saw grey haired oldsters who couldn't keep up with them physically and ASSumed that the old guys hadn't learned more efficient ways of doing the job.

Without unions, management feels perfectly free to fire anyone who has reached the top of the pay scale in favor of a young guy who doesn't know his thumb from his bum yet, but who will work on the cheap.

Be aware, all you go getters under 35. Without unions, you will be starting over completely when you turn 50. In some fields, you'll have to start over at 40.

It's so hard to prove age discrimination that the corporations do this to us with impunity.

Oh, and the next time you hear some hospital poobah whine about a nursing shortage, ask him why experienced nurses have been pushed out in favor of new grads. They all do it.
