Foxx tries to backtrack on Shepard comments: 'hoax' was a poor choice of words
http://www.pamshouseblend.com/diary/10698/foxx-tries-to-backtrack-on-shepard-comments-hoax-was-a-poor-choice-of-words

A poor choice of words? Too late for you, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC5). You know you meant what you said when you spewed that hate on the floor of the House of Representative. You shamed yourself, your district and your state with that filth. And this backtracking is only because you must have had no clue how out of step you are with basic decency. The NC GOP was laughing at the anger over your remarks. I doubt they are laughing now as they have to explain to the media why the party of Jesse Helms and Elizabeth Dole refuse to enter the 21st century. (WXII12-Winston-Salem):

Foxx released this comment stating that she used a poor choice of words:
"It has come to my attention that some people have been led to believe that I think the terrible crimes that led to Matthew Shepard's death in 1998 were a hoax," she said. "The term "hoax" was a poor choice of words used in the discussion of the hate crimes bill. Mr. Shepard's death was nothing less than a tragedy and those responsible for his death certainly deserved the punishment they received.

"The larger context of my remarks is important. I was referring to a 2004 ABC 20/20 report on Mr. Shepard's death. The 20/20 report questioned the motivation of those responsible for Mr. Shepard's death. Referencing this media account may have been a mistake, but if so it was a mistake based on what I believed were reliable accounts."

Edited on Thu Apr-30-09 02:22 AM by bluedawg12
she accused Matt of being a robber.

Her mail box is full and I hope she got an eye full! Beast and liar. :grr:

4. She didn't *exactly* accuse him of being a robber
She said he was killed during the commission of a robbery - which is true. The killers were robbing Shephard. She said it had nothing to do with his sexual orientation, which is bullshit.

In some way it would be less hurtful had she actually lied. Instead she chose her words carefully to smear the victim while not *actually* lying on that point.

6. Not What I Said But What I Meant...The Old Trick...
The GOOP has always played this game...slime and then cover their asses if the fall out gets to deep...throw out the red meat that gets attention...if it's a "positive" spin, then keep hammering, if it's negative (which covers 99.9% of what comes out of a rushpublicans piehole) then they either say they were taken out of context or that "that wasn't what I meant". Of course they didn't. :sarcasm:

Foxx can "rephrase" or tap dance (ugh...an awful visual) but her words remain in the Congressional Record (unless someone can show where that was retracted)...and will surely go on campaign literature or cited by her far right benefactors. The words will long have faded, but they'll live on in the ears of the bigots...sure to be a hate radio talking point.

Poor choice of words? Bullshit. Foxx has played this game many times before. She's one of Boner's favorite hatchett wielders...who would want to attack someone's grandma? But the vile words that come out of her trap must be condemned. For heaven's sake, Matthew's mother was sitting right in the gallery.

It's one thing for her to pour her bile at CPAC or some right wing teabagging...it's another on the floor of the U.S. Congress.

9. I sure hope not.
All I know is, she's backpedaling faster than an unbalanced unicyclist. But it's sheer crap. SHE used the word "hoax." SHE is the one who "led some people to believe" that she called the idea that this murder was a hate crime a "hoax." Nobody else.

I just love how these people act like some evil force beyond their control is somehow manipulating people against their will into believing false things about what they said. Um, no, lady, it's just a matter of who I'm going to believe--you, or my lying ears.

10. Don't forget, Robin Price, another GOP asshole, lost an election due to a "bad choice of words"
Foxx should now be targeted to be displaced from her seat. She is obviously insane. Or Evil. Or both. Need to wipe the Jesse Helms hate genes out of NC politics once and for all.

And how much shame is possible in a district where highways are named after convicted felons?

16. Judy Shepard doesn't think Foxx was sincere
And for that matter, neither do I. I think we should all write or call our Congress Critters and ask them to consider a censure resolution against Rep. Foxx.

17. and her mealty-mouthed "IF I offended anyone" bs. virginia, you DID offend every
thinking, caring, sentient being within earshot, as well as anybody who read your comments later.

the ONLY thing you are sorry about is that your disgusting, hate-filled diatribe was broadcast to the world, so that your bigotry, cruelty and complete lack of decency are there for all to see.

resign, and leave the room. you are not welcome.
