Has your opinion of Bush changed any...
...due to his recent silence? Unlike Cheney, Bush has basically disappeared.

Has his silence changed your mind (even in the slightest) about him?

I'm wondering if his complete silence implies that he really was in over his head, and he got caught up listening to these bozos (like Cheney) that are on TV everyday defending their policies, and now he is just happy to be away from it all.

What do you all think?

5. What's he gonna say?
He never said anything worthwhile while he was squatting in the Oval Office, so why should we think that he has anything to say now.

He knows nothing, and has not the slightest idea of what's going on. Just like the past eight years .................

6. Bu$h's current "silence" is probably alcohol induced.
I have read that Bu$h is drunk as a lord most of the time (and suicidal, according to two tabloids .. FWIW). Pickles is at her wit's end.

Bu$h is drinking himself to death quietly, while Cheney prefers to snarl and snap when hungover from his heavy Scotch habit. Their self-inflicted hells seem to working out quite well, IMO.

Still, I want to see them stay healthy enough to stand trial. Meanwhile, drink up boys .. you both have done "wonders" for the GOP!

12. I'm in that camp
I think that without any public obligations and a whole team of sycophants and toadies to prop him up, he's back to his first love, an alcohol-induced fugue state. There's a difference between a respectful silence (something beyond Bush's capabilities as far as I can tell) and the incapacity for speech, which is what I think he's currently "enjoying."

18. Good point.
You said: "There's a difference between a respectful silence (something beyond Bush's capabilities as far as I can tell) and the incapacity for speech..."

I didn't think about it like that. I still think he's probably just happy to be done with it all, though. But your point makes some sense, too.

Remember that phone call that was taped (maybe before he became president), where I believe he was talking about gay marriage, and said something along the lines of "who am I to judge?" Or something like that? That, coupled with what is going on now, makes me believe he is just dumb and let the stronger personalities (who you see on TV everyday, Cheney, Rove, etc) do what they wanted, and he went along with it.

I guess that's just as bad, because the failure that resulted is the same.

But I don't know, the fact that he isn't coming out and defending his policies the same way some of those other guys are make me feel a little differently towards him.

17. Wow! Is this true?!
Didn't know the guy was potentially suicical. Hmmm.

Interesting George Bush memory. I once got to hear a phone conversation between Dubya and... somebody else (I don't remember who it was but they were recording the President on the down-low) and the topic of homosexuality came up. Specifically the idea of ferreting out gays that were working in government and Bush -- who wasn't aware he was being recorded and, as far as he knew, was talking to a Republican fellow-travler -- replied by saying, essentially, "No way -- I don't want to discriminate against anybody!"

At the time I thought it was an unexpected example of ethical behavior.

Has anyone else heard about this? As a lifelong liberal I don't read the kind of literature that would report on it, or listen to or watch the kind of news that would talk about it, either. I am strictly an Air-America, NPR, MSNBC kind o' guy, but I can't help thinking that there's more to this story than we know about.

8. Actually....
...and I'm likely to be crucified over this, yes. I felt his comment about Obama deserving his silence and respect was fantastic. I can't say the same about other presidents and previous administrations. Even though I disagreed with him vehemently and wanted to see some sort of justice done - I have to give him kudos for that.

I believe he wants us to THINK that he was just a patsy by remaining silent.

11. I ALWAYS knew that Cheney was the mastermind during the last...
eight years, and Dumbya was well... just dumb and a coward who couldn't/wouldn't stand up to Darth Vader Cheney, and Rumsfeld. I absolutely LOATHE Cheney, but since Bush has somewhat faded to black, not so much.

pretend to be. He did nothing for 8 years and he's doing nothing now. Same old idiot son.

19. I guess it was a coincidence that I happened to post this...
...the same day that this article came out:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/29/poll-bush-getting-even-mo_n_192861.html

It sounds people dislike him even more than before.

I can't imagine what Cheney's approval rating is now :)

put him back in his box. Yes - I said President Cheney. Him and his cronies were running the show - Bush was just the front. IMHO.
