Furious Obama Calls Terror Plane A Mistake, Vows It Won't Happen Again And Order Inquiry

President Barack Obama, described by aides as furious over yesterday's terror plane incident, has ordered an internal review to determine how the decision was made.

"It was a mistake, as was stated ... and it will not happen again," Obama said in response to questions from reporters.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said in a briefing earlier today that deputy chief of staff Jim Messina will lead the review. Gibbs said the point is to determine "why that decision was made and to ensure that it never happens again."

1. This is the kind of thing that crippled Clinton. The right-wing media pounce on stuff like this.
Obama is correct in his reaction to this - it had the potential to be very bad pr for him and his administration. It never should have happened. It was so stupid it makes me wonder if someone did it on purpose.

3. First, WTF was anyone taking pictures of that plane?
How on earth could that be considered a good use of money? Do people need to know what that plane looks like? No. We don't.

After 9/11, the sight of ANY plane near ANY American landmark feels threatening.

It was done with an invincible insular stupidity. Common in government work.

6. Actually it was a very Republican thing to do - "Who would have expected...?"
Echoes of Condi Rice, "Who could have expected the terrorist attacks?" or Michael Steele today, "Who could have predicted a possible pandemic?"

Which is why I am suspicious of the chain of decision that allowed this to happen.

17. Excuse me, but no.
This thing has been GROSSLY blown out of proportion. I'm sorry that some people freaked, but they need to realize that seeing a low-flying airplane is NOT the horrifying nightmare that they might conceive it was.

19. In Cleveland, Atlanta, San Franciso etc...
You would be correct..

But those people have not had commercial airliners deliberately slammed into buildings in front of their eyes..

New Yorkers have had to dodge the debris and the bodies.

I think if you had done that you might be a bit more empathetic.

18. A little reminder of 9/11 and how much safer we were under
Republicans? If it was a stunt it was very lame.

8. Who does that sound like.
Did you notice that all talk of torture is off of the TV and Cheney has gone back into hiding. A dose of terror topped with a little swine flu....Our work here is done.

terror plane. For anyone that lived through 9/11 and thought this was another attack. After all Cheney pretty much declared that another attack would happen. And, I'm so pleased Obama is going to investigate because he probably has moles everywhere left over from Cheney/Rove. This seemed like a stunt and reflected badly on him because it allowed the RW to go after it and honestly scared folks in NYC who voted for him.

He left them behind to blow things up.

13. good, hopefully a few more "contaminated" left-behinds will be weeded out.
I keep seeing the image in the old AdAware program of the kicking, squirming "virus."
That's what Cheney's moles are like, a form of swine flu that attacks government operations and Obama policies.

14. After the Bush disaster(s), this is how I rate 'terror':
How many people died, and how many people will be killed as a result of this?

20. F*ckuva job, Brownie!
When this POTUS gets angry, it's because someone really HAS f***ed up -- as opposed to the previous occupant, whose coke-and-alcohol-addled brain told him to randomly attack anyone vulnerable in the vicinity whenever he felt his manhood was impugned, but never chastise any (R) who totally screwed the pooch.

public know what was going on. if this was a "photo op", it obviously wasn't any kind of secret.

As always, ask yourself "Who does it serve?" and remember that Bush left moles behind.
