Guess Who Else Bragged About Cutting Pandemic Funds
http://www.nypost.com/seven/02082009/news/nationalnews/angry_gop_lets_off_team_ulus_154056.htm">ANGRY GOP LETS OFF STEAM-ULUS

For New York, the bill represented a resounding victory, Sen. Charles Schumer said...

"There was an attempt on the floor to cut New York's money and we defeated it," Schumer said. "New Yorkers can feel proud and walk tall because the federal government is coming to our aid in a way commensurate with our needs, as opposed to helping the rest of the country and sort of giving crumbs to New York..."

He said the compromise hammered out between Senate Democrats and moderate Republicans - which has enough support to get it past any threat of a filibuster - was far better than that passed by the House on Jan. 29.

"All those little porky things that the House put in, the money for the Mall or the sexually transmitted diseases or the flu pandemic, they're all out," Schumer said.

----

Personally, I think Schumer is a little porky thing.

5. What a shame!
They spend an absolute fortune on defense but vote against funding for possible pandemics or diseases.

11. The sentence speaks for itself even without context.
Are you suggesting the Post made it up?

Not only that it's a very typical statement by Chuck. No reason at all to doubt the quote or the intent.

You state emphatically that the quote was "butchered." So you must have access to the original then, right? Otherwise you'd be talking completely out your ass. Could you please post a link to the accurate version? Thanks.

13. The Post butchered it AND YOU KNOW IT. Did Schumer vote against funds? Did he come out against them?
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 02:16 PM by KittyWampus
Or is he just commenting on how the bill was shaped and how it turned out?

You are the tool that buys Rightwing crap. YOU find out what Schumer said exactly and when he said it and why.

You are the one who took a piece of shit from the NYPost and hid the link hoping no one would notice where it came from.

15. He wasn't just "commenting." He was PRAISING the removal
of the stuff he considered pork. Very typical Schumer. No reason to doubt it whatsoever.

16. I don't see any "praise". He is commenting on the process. That you see praise illustrates your abje
willingness to swallow shit from the NYPost.

24. Did he say something different other that what is quoted ..............
Just curious.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/02082009/news/nationalnews/angry_gop_lets_off_team_ulus_154056.htm

.........For New York, the bill represented a resounding victory, Sen. Charles Schumer said.

"This is the first bill in a very long time where New York gets back more than we put in and on every major issue New York did very, very well," the Democrat said.

If the bill remains unchanged, New York state stands to get $5 billion for Medicaid, $1.5 billion in cash for mass transit, $1 billion for police departments and billions more for road and bridge projects.

"There was an attempt on the floor to cut New York's money and we defeated it," Schumer said. "New Yorkers can feel proud and walk tall because the federal government is coming to our aid in a way commensurate with our needs, as opposed to helping the rest of the country and sort of giving crumbs to New York." ...

7. Jindal mocks volcano research funding and Redoubt blows
More GOP fools mock flu funding and we get a growing epidemic of a very nasty strain.

If there are any GOP pols with brains, they will STFU about cutting spending on things that might just matter out beyond the end of their noses.

9. Your piece of shit post that butchers Schumer's quotes COMES FROM THE NYPOST
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 02:03 PM by KittyWampus
Why the fuck does DU put up with posters who buy into rightwing spin and insist on spreading that crap here?

Half of DU is too stupid to clink on your link to find out the source and/or to realize that his quotes have been cut into segments and removed from anything to give context.

NEW YORK CITY WILL BE GROUND ZERO FOR ANY US PANDEMIC.

You don't think Schumer realized that?

12. Please post the accurate quote then.
I'll wait.

I oppose Schumer from the left. HE is a right winger. The Post wasn't criticizing him in this piece. They were hailing him because he shares their views about "porky things" (and many other things as well).

Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 02:20 PM by KittyWampus
DU'ers like you oppose Democrats who don't pass your purity test and end up being used as tools of the rightwing.

I live in NY and am familiar enough with Schumer and his record to know he would not actively seek to remove Pandemic funding.

He says: "All the 'porky' things"

Sums our situation up in a nutshell. Or inside a viral insult, doesn't it?
